this song is talking about how we trust whatever the authorities say or do: "with foolish faith in faulted leaders" "a long hard road down this manifest destiny" history lesson...many people believed that manifest destiny (the belief that God meant for America to span from "sea to shining sea") was a load of crap, and the song is saying that they will not "be held down," and will speak up

my eyes were opened to these guys on sunday, when i went to see killswitch engage at the astoria. they were the second supporting band. in all honesty the outplayed killswitch, which was unbelievable as killswitch rules. some truely intense metalcore, and spoke to the frontman after, totally sound guy.
check these guys out people!
No offense, but All That Remains is by far better than Killswith. Pay more attention to it. The All That Remains vocalist has better and pure (no pitching by other band members) vocals, and All That Remains has better drums and faster music overall (more metalcore that Killswitch).

I saw these guys on Metal Asylum yesterday, and I must say I was impressed. Killswitch is also pretty awesome as well.

This is metalcore. If you want death metal listen to Necrophagist or Decapitated. Metalcore is a different game altogether.

i love the vocals in this song, how he screams the words is amazing, and the looping riffs is freaking amazing with the slow double kick is awwwesome.

I think this is about being raised to believe in the God and the government, basically what society says. And realizing it's all bullshit...that the world is just hurting because of it.

If you follow Phil on a personal level at all, you'd have to understand that he's not offended by America's manifest destiny, he believes in it! There's a lot of pressure in the political area today to combat the concept of American Exceptionalism. There are many who believe we need to be "held down" or held back because of our successes. Phil states that he must "disown" these "faulted leaders" and continue without apology or shame the "long hard road" of our nations manifest destiny.
