Last Post On The Bugle Lyrics
I will be thinking of your love
Oh somehow you'll know
You will know
Thinking of your love
Slyly they whispered away
As I played the last post on the bugle
I heard them say
Oh that boy's no different today
Except in every single way
I will be thinking of your love
Oh somehow you'll know
You'll just know
Thinking of your love
Caught up in an affray
They let him away, he sang
We'll meet again some day
And oh my boy, there's a price to pay
I will be thinking of your love
Oh somehow you'll know
I don't know how much longer
I'll be thinking of your love
La-la-la-la-la
So, so alone
Locked in a room
Waiting til kingdom come
Although I felt elated
I felt like I was scum
Caught up in an affray
They let him away, he sang
We'll meet again some day
Oh my boy, there's a price to pay
We'll meet again some day
Oh my boy, there's a price to pay
Though it's been longer than I could possibly say
I've been wandering the market
Carrying a sign, saying the end of...
I'm glad to see we're still tight
The bonds that tie a man are tight
Yet we do what we do
With ritual hability
All through the night

Well then something has DIED then, hasn't it? The song played on the bugle is for someone DEAD, as the kinship & closeness & comraderie & special feelings these guys once had for each other is now dead. So RiotKid, you did nail it w/that comment. This song is all about Pete screwing up bigtime & regretting it because that special relationship is ruined. That would certainly hurt.

This was written by Pete when he was arrested after breaking into Carls flat. Great song, one of the best on the album.

Well... I don't really know what this has to do with the song, but at the Menin Gate ceremony in Belgium which remembers those who died in World War 1 every night at 8pm, bugles play the Last Post. Just a something... NO idea what it has to do with the song though.

i reckon ''theres a price to pay'' and ''i was carried away'' is to do with pete breaking into carls apartment and going to jail and ''im glad to see we're still tight, the bonds that tie a man are tight.'' are about the fact they remained friends afterwards from the first day pete was out of prison. great band

"Inside I felt So, so alone Locked in a room Waiting til kingdom come Although I felt elated I felt like I was scum"- Possible reference to when Pete was in jail, and even though the drugs gave him a temporary but extreme happiness, he's regretting it and wishing it hadn't heppened, wanting to put it right, not knowing how etc etc? Correct me if I'm wrong.
But fucking TUNE this!!! Love it. Why's it only got two 'comments'?

Inside I felt So, so alone Locked in a room Waiting til kingdom come Although I felt elated I felt like I was scum
i really like this part especially the way he injects the word scum with alot of effortless passion

oooh the days of the libertines - ashame the moment's over and Pete's constantly hounded, which in my opinion only makes him more ill :\ It seems most of this album is about them fallin apart and away from each other - possibly the most saddening album in my collection...
Stay cool

actually this song sounds a lot like an old 60s song at the start its called war or hands of time by masters apprentices...you should check this out it's pretty similar
Stay cool

AMAZING TRACK, I LOVE IT ONE OF THE BEST ON THE ALBUM!! ITS THAT CONSTANT FLOWING BEAT, AND BACK TO THE BEGGINING AGAIN THAT I LOVE!!! LOVE THE LIBERTINES!

'The world is nigh I'm glad to see we're still tight The bonds that tie a man are tight'
Is that about him and carl.. quite ironic if it is lol xxx
