I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
The city where I live
The faces in the crowd
It all just makes me stop to think
This is what I've found
Everyone knows everyone
Everyone knows what everyone does
It's cloudy now but that's OK
Sitting around here all day
See I've got this friend
Who just complains about getting out
Said I'm gonna sell my stuff and quit my band
And move out east or anyhow
Cuz everyone knows everyone
Everyone knows what everyone does
It's rainy now and I can't wait
To get out of here someday
There's no escaping
There's nothing to escape
For no good reason
I think I'm gonna stay
Cuz everyone knows everyone
Everyone knows what everyone does
It's sunny out and that's OK
Running around here all day
The faces in the crowd
It all just makes me stop to think
This is what I've found
Everyone knows everyone
Everyone knows what everyone does
It's cloudy now but that's OK
Sitting around here all day
See I've got this friend
Who just complains about getting out
Said I'm gonna sell my stuff and quit my band
And move out east or anyhow
Cuz everyone knows everyone
Everyone knows what everyone does
It's rainy now and I can't wait
To get out of here someday
There's no escaping
There's nothing to escape
For no good reason
I think I'm gonna stay
Cuz everyone knows everyone
Everyone knows what everyone does
It's sunny out and that's OK
Running around here all day

Gentle Hour

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Sunglasses at Night

In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.
he's talking about portland oregon. and his feelings about living here. the video for this are just a bunch of places in downtown portland... which is way cool
He probably longs to see what is outside of Oregon, but is content with ties he has to state. He wants to spread his wings, but always thinks, "why? I'm happy where I'm at, but it'd be nice to look around...maybe....one day..."
I live in Portland, and I think he wrote it because all though Portland is a large city, it's still small enough in that you see familiar faces almost daily.
