7 out of 21 knocked down
Now only 14 left to go
I didn't know that I was next in line
But it is not as if I've had much time
Jet lag all around me voices calling
Saying please don't go away
Last thing I remember drifting down this tunnel
Was bright light ahead

Out of nowhere
It came and him me on the head
Out of nowhere
I saw it over there
Before it hit you on the head
I saw it over there

Out of nowhere
It came and him me on the head
Out of nowhere
I saw it over there
Before it hit you on the head
I saw it over there

7 out of 21 knocked down
Now only 14 left to go
I didn't know that I was next in line
But it is not as if I've had much time
Jet lag all around me voices calling
Saying please don't go away
Last thing I remember drifting down this tunnel
Was bright light ahead

Then when I came around
Somebody helped me to my feet
And said I can't believe you're still alive
I've seen 20 other people in the last half an hour
Who've been hit right between the eyes
Seems that somebody some where's on a mission to protect you
Knowing that you should have survived
Hurray, hurray, hurray
We're still alive

Out of nowhere
It came and him me on the head
Out of nowhere
I saw it over there
Before it hit you on the head
I saw it over there

It came and him me on the head
Out of nowhere
I saw it over there
Before it hit you on the head
I saw it over there

It came and him me on the head
Out of nowhere
I saw it over there
Before it hit you on the head
I saw it over there
Out of nowhere

I totally do NOT get this song. It seems like it's a song about being hit on the head by someone. Or something. It's so strange...

    Great song!

Before is saw these lyrics I thought that it said:

    jet lag all around me

    rather than

    jet black all around me

cos that would of made more sense because i thought that he was in an airport and there was a terroist attack.

But probably wrong. Who cares! Great song!

it's about god watching over the song writer even though the odds were against him

'it seems that somebody somewhere's on a mission to protect ya cos there's no way that you should've survived'

i don't know if it's a real life experience though

there could potentially be a reference to war. there is the feeling that he is running from an attack, while many of his mates have been killed he is escaping through a tunnel and once he is in the clear he has a mind revitalizing epiphany: he could of just as easily been killed but is alive

I reckon It's about some kinda ball game - Cricket or something 7 people out, 14 left to bowl "I didn't know that i was next in line" Didn't know he was on the field next "Out of nowhere it came and hit me on the head" They bat the ball and it hits the chappy and knocks him out "Hit right between the eyes" suggests he was hit by the ball and hes not in some kind of war

    My Opinion

Here's what I've got out of this song.

There are 21 people put in line for execution. Just when the next turn comes to him, a third party arrives, neutralizes the executors and some of them even hits the remaining 14 people in the head with the back of their rifle.

I don't know why, but the song makes sense to me this way :)

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
