I think this song is about someone who spends their whole life trying to bring poeple down. It's really good anyway, the rest of the song sounds pretty general, but the corus is fantastic and origional. Yay for thornley.
This song is about you against yourself. You find "a burning need to get yourself away" from your mundane life, yet over the years ("some poor bastard's lost 10 years") you've taught yourself how to keep a good man (yourself) down. Welcome to the system.
