If you want, take it at face value. But when I see the sun I normally think of the face of God, or what is beyond the sun > must be God.
The line about looking up to find a billion stars, to find the one could represent all the many different religions and which one will you find solace in. Will this one include God? Losing sense for time and space > God knows time in a different way than we do. And he is the golden one.
To me this song is more about someone you love the most. The sun always make me happy same as the person you love the most. So many people out there like billion stars, Look up ... because one of them you'll spend your further life with.
To me the song is about following the sun of consciousness or the sun of rational intelligence which you follow on and on. This was seen as holy and sacred to ancient civilisations.
