Living in America Lyrics
Nightlife baby, oooh-aah-ooh
Look out, shape up, before you get your turn around
And wake up honey, oooh-aah-ooh
But we're not sorry
I knew there was something that we never had,
But we don't worry
No we're not living in America,
But we're not sorry
We don't care about the world today
We're not sorry for you
Don't stop baby, oooh-aah-ooh
I learned my way, I'm living for something now
It's hardcore honey, Oooh-aah-ooh
But we're not sorry
I knew there was something that we never had,
But we don't worry
No we're not living in America,
But we're not sorry
We don't care about the world today
We're not sorry for you
We're not living in America
We're not living in America
We're not living in America
We're not living...
But we're not sorry
I know there was something that we never had
But we don't worry
No, we're not living in America,
But we're not sorry
We don't care about the world today
We're not sorry for you
Oh, baby, baby, baby, baby, aah..

I think this song is not so much about putting down America, but about bringing Americans back down to earth. Just because you are American does not make you superior to everyone else (the common perception of many Americans).
"We don't care about the world today" is most likely a play on the ignorance of many Americans. Many Americans are oblivious to the fact that the rest of the world not only does not look up to America, but actually despise America for its foreign policies.
Just my view.
NB: Many does not equal most. Just means many.
I live in america and i hate living here
I live in america and i hate living here
Okay, as an American, I can honestly say that NOT ONE of my American friends or relatives has this perception of us being superior to everyone else. I don't really know where this idea comes from that we think we're so great. It's really hurtful actually to hear that so many countries hate us when most everyone I know thinks very highly of other countries. Trust me; we are all VERY aware that other countries hate all of us because of... well, fuck if I know, honestly. There are places I'd rather live than here, yes, but I don't think...

It's one thing to not like the way a government runs, but I don't see a reason to hate the people living there.
Personally, I love this song, but I don't think it has anything to do with putting Americans in their place. I think America is a metaphor for what's considered modern living (get lots of money, have a normal job, etc. What PacificToast said, really.), which is what the band is rejecting. The speaker would have to switch for that one line "We don't care about the world today" for it to apply to 'Americans' in that interpretation. The rest of the chorus is clearly the band's POV, so this doesn't make sense. I think that line is meant as, "We don't care about this modern standard".
@ melbaJD people dont hate Americans per se, but the US government and their politics, (at least intellectual people :>) Personally I dont judge people by their ethnics. But I despise Capitalism, the way the American government is basically shitting all over the average american, war for money etc. America sums up all those things pretty good :)

yeah these are the lyrics for dance with me...might wanna fix that up

haha yeah i have no idea why i posted that right after caet said the exact same thing. sorry about that.

No, these are the lyrics for "Living in America". "Dance with Me" must be wrong, then.

yeah, duh, it says Living In America like a billion times in this song DUH. -_-

It's just saying that even though they may not have the American Dream, they don't care.

I think it's to say to people around her that you don't live in AMERICA. And instead to ''live for something'', they ''live for nothing'' finding their pleasure in pornography, night life and selfish behavior in general (pretty as a picturee). (I knew their were something we never had) meaning that she realize that people are missing something and by ignoring the world (We don't care about the world today) they are not closer to get it and she's not sorry for it (But we're not sorry).

@tyrock @salt2love Interesting comment to read 10 years later when Trump is POTUS, after running on a “Make America Great Again” and “America First” campaign.
Curious if @melbaJD has since witnessed the poisonous American Exceptionalism we now see every day.

this is already submitted as Dance With Me make up your mind and make it go away
