You know I'm not dead
You know I'm you know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead

Now you know where I've been
As you sleep shine I am
Waiting down patiently
Born of love

You know I'm you know I'm not dead
I'm just living in my head
Forever waiting on the ways of your desire
You always find your way

And through it all into us all you move
Forgotten touch, forbidden thought
We can never, ever know

You know I'm not dead
You know I'm, you know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead

Down below the creatures scream
Strangehold of God's machines
Begging to tear us out
Worn as hope

You know I'm, you know I'm not dead
I'm just the tears inside your head
Forever waiting on the ways of your desire
You always find a way

And through it all, into us all you move
Forgotten touch, forbidden thought
We can never, ever know
You know I'm not dead

We all want to hold in the everlasting gaze
Enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway
But underneath the wheels lie the skulls of every cog
The fickle fascination of an everlasting God

You know I'm not dead
I'm just living in my head

Forever waiting, forever waiting a cruel death

You know I'm not dead
I'm just living for myself
Forever waiting

You know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead

I see it completely differently. You guys don't understand Billy Corgan. Almost every Pumpkins song is somewhat cluttered by depression. I'm not going through it anymore..but i have been heavily depressed before. "I'm just living in my head" is really a feeling that i had. When you're in this depression you're disconnected. and you seem dead to practically everybody. So this seems like him shouting back at everybody..and at the same time shouting about the idiocy of depression. The Everlasting Gaze is an everlasting vision of hopelessness and no destination.

    Song Meaning

Omg im reading yout interpretations and i can't help to think that this song is absolutely not about god, his fans, the music industry and sh*t

Here it goes, my own interpretation, and I believe it to be bether than any of those above:

The song is about love. As usual. Particularly about the desire to love.

The thing that is given voice in this song is the desire to open one'self soul to another and give in to another love adventure, yet this feeling is repressed, and it's telling that it'll never die, until cruel death hits it's owner

now you know where i've been as you sleep, torn i am wear you down patiently born of love

it lurks, patiently, it is born out of love

forgotten touch forbidden thought we can never have enough

this thing tells that it cannot be hold back for long

forever waiting on the ways of your desire you always find your way and thru it all, into us all you move

this basic desire to give in to love and open one'self soul to another is inherent to every human bean, and billy, the author of the song, basicaly tells that he tried to deny this feeling, based perhaps on a bad previous experience, but in the end, it will never die

the everlasting gaze ultimately means being in love, surrendering to love and it's ilusions, and the song tells that we all want that, to be enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway, but he the author is in fact repressing hes feelings

My speculation is that Billy is speaking to God when he says, "You know, I'm not dead". He feels forgotten by God, forsaken by God and this is his (sarcastic) way to remind God that, hey, I'm still alive/help me out here. It makes sense if you think about it. When he says "And through us all, you move" he seems to be speaking about some kind of spiritual entity. Anyhow, let me know what you think.

maybe it like a dedication or a song for his fans.. that him and the band still exist.. (machina era)

it's like. if you know someone in the past and you remember that someone, they are not considered dead, they live in our heads.

so like him, if the fans still think about and supports him and the band, they still there playing music.. it's not yet their end..

they stay in the fans' memories but memories are not forgotten.. memories live inside our head. waiting to be remembered. it may consider everlasting coz it doesn't die, unless dies on a cruel death..

It sounds like 'the everlasting gaze' is like people gazing towards an idea of the afterlife and a kinda a reliance on god to be there and what not.

and - i reckon the song is kinda as well asking the question 'where is the big man?' and sorta going through life with this 'fickle fascination of an everlasting god' to get us through.

but yeah, its a MASSIVE! song whatever it means :)

Wait, scratch that last msg, actually I've heard a better intepretation online somewhere saying this: it's about those who have turned their back on Corgan letting them know "you know i'm not dead."

no, i think its a message to God of some kind, especially the lines "we all want to hold in the everlasting gaze ... the fickle fascination of an everlasting god " - this could be about feeling forsaken by God.

I think this is Billy mad at god (maybe because the band is falling apart and music was his life?) and he's saying "don't forget about me cause I can forget about you too"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
