The Only Answer Lyrics
I had a moment of serenity.
I saw you standing, in all the green,
Upon the rusting rail, balancing.
My plans spun all around you.
Five years in the wrong, I am assured,
My name to you is just
Another word.
You had magazines strewn around, from under them,
The phone had rang, and in the margin there you wrote the number down.
My plans spun all around you,
Five years in the wrong, I am assured,
My name to you is just
Another word.
Another word.
The only answer.
Another word.
The only answer.
The only answer.
The only answer.

I think it is morristown not morsetown
WOW!! I can listen to this song over and over and over. Such a great simple song - the simple truth is so raw and powerful.
this is the song you imagine writing for someone when you are in high school

Unlike a lot of Doughty lyrics which really are really just sound explorations, I feel like this album did a much better job of narrative.
With just a few words in this song, he gives us a few characters, settings and emotions to put you in a story. I really like this song because I'm positive I've got some experiences like the ones he's singing about, and it makes me reminisce those. The girl you thought was the one, and the insignificant but beautiful moments you remember.

so simple, yet so powerful, this is what a song should be.

this song brings up memories of my wife, who passed in 2013. makes me cry every time i hear this song...
these words ring true: You were the only answer. My plans spun all around you.
