There was a time and place,
Where I never thought,
I'd leave my own hometown,
But those days finally,
Are dead and gone,
It was never my intention to stay there,
Oh no,

There was a conscious effort played by me,
To disown anything I see,
There was a girl I knew,
Way back when,
Who says she doesn't know me anymore,
These are the lies the things you never mention,
These are my past mistakes I'll stay away from,

These are my thoughts written down on paper,
It's my only savior,
From not saying what I want to say,
These are the thoughts that are on my mind,
Moments that haven't yet been defined,
And I don't know if you could ever understand,
These are the things I can't say when were alone.

There were countless hours on the telephone,
My ears were ringing from the dial tone,
There were flashing lights,
People staring,
There was nothing I could ever do,
These are the lies the things you never mention,
These are my past mistakes I'll stay away from,

This is the truth,
The only time you'll here it,
I write it down because it seems so hard to say it,

These are my thought written down on paper,
It's my only savior,
From not saying what I want to say,
These are the thought that are on my mind,
Moments that haven't yet been defined,
And I don't know if you could ever understand,
These are the things I can't say when were alone.

I think this song is about maturing, about moving on. I relate to it because the narrator seems to be torn between maturing and everything it is he's leaving behind because the people he's surrounded himself with haven't gotten to "his level" yet, so to speak. And being torn, he finds it difficult to express what he's feeling.

These are the lies the things you never mention, These are my past mistakes I'll stay away from,

It's my only saviour, From not saying what I want to say,

I think it may even have to do about how nfg wants to be different and try not to mold into what everything others want them to be...

well actually i was an idiot for commenting like that, cuz actually i duno what i was thinkin cuz it has nothing to do with that... I think its about how ur Trapped into something and when u try and try so hard to get out but stuck there and others dont acknowledge your existence

i totally agree with you Seanie! thats the exact same thing i was thinking. it is so much harder to say something in person than in a song. the great thing about this song is that it's not to literal. i like songs where u have to think about the meaning of it...

Ok now for what I really wanted to say about the song:

"These are my thoughts written down on paper, It's my only savior, From not saying what I want to say"

Oh wow those words just mean everything to me and relate to me soooo much. Theres this girl whos name I cant say mainly bc Im so scared to tell her how I feel, for many many reaons, and whenever I write music I write all the songs about her, I cant tell her what I really wanna say so I spend my time writting songs about her. And to me its the only way I can get out the feelings I have without screwing everything up...So thats why I love this song....rock on NFG and by the way people, some of you should watch your language, theres no reason to some of those words...keep it clean!!!!!!

my favorite song on catalyst. and if a song makes you feel good and you understand it than alright. songs don't have to be confusing to be good. and i agree about the meaning, you can spill your guts on paper but when you are in person it's different.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
