[Chorus]
Gave you my love and I can't get it back
Gave you all my time and I can't get it back
Now the ring that you gave me
You can't have it back
Cause it's not going down like that
Gave you my time and I can't get it back
Gave you all my love and I can't get it back
Now the things that you gave me
You want them back
But it's not going down like that

[Verse 1]
When we begun
You know you have a sista on sprung
When we hung
Cause a brotha was nice with his tongue
As we played every day
You always knew just what to say
As we laid and planned to get married the very next May
As time moved on, we were torn
You used to love me from dusk 'till dawn
Now you trippin' from night till morn
You've changed your song
To you can no longer keep me warm
Cause the loving we shared was gone

Cause you better know
That you can't get back
What you put in this relationship
I'm telling you so
Cause I can't get back
All my kissing and hugging and loving
So I'm telling you

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
Now we're through
Out my life and away love flew
And it's cool
Put the glass shoe on another young fool
Cause I had slept
While you crept
Can't take the heat so away you step
Now upset
And don't come back for nothing that you left
I gave you my all
But if it's too small
I can't call
Cause every players got to ball
As seasons change
You couldn't hang
But if you think your coming back for this ring

Then you better know
That you can't get back
What you put in this relationship
I'm telling you so
Cause I can't get it back
All my kissing and hugging and loving
So I'm telling you

[Chorus]

Now let me tell you something 'bout me
I don't need no
No lying man standing next to me
Gonna expose the do-dos, the cheatings a no-no
And if you say something one more time
Then I'm gonna flip back to where I came from where
People on the street's tell me you've done wrong
Penny for the rabbit if you want to play hard
Don't like tit-for-tat- I don't forget anytime
You come around and take what's mine
The ring on my finger meant for a lifetime
Don't worry yourself 'cause I am past your kind
I'm too smart for you I'm gonna shine for life
That's right

Get out
Oww, Oww
Oww, Oww
No you can't have it back, silly rabbit

Cause you better know
That you can't get back
What you put in this relationship
I'm telling you so
Cause I can't get back
All my kissing and hugging and loving
So I'm telling you

[Chorus]

I love this song, it's one of those real girl power, strong songs, she's caught him cheating and broken it off, he's trying to take her engagement ring back, and she's refusing, she's put everything into this relationship, she might as well get something out of it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
