I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Confusion writhes around our hearts impatiently
It drains the faith that lights the dark and sets us free
From the chains of our war
And the pain we once called love
The poison of doubt enslaves our minds and we bleed
We abandon the trust that kept us blind and disappear
Under the crimson wings of hate
Where the lost are safe until they love again
The heart of darkness is hope of finding you there
And that hope will be our love’s requiem
We pray to the serpent of delight desperately
The questions are answered and we try not to weep
Until we are sure
We’re suffering for love
In the dungeon of our dreams we’re so weak
The promise made to be broken still haunts our sleep
And we won’t open our eyes
Afraid we would die for love again
The heart of darkness is hope of finding you there
And that hope will be our love’s requiem
The salvation we seek will be waiting us there
In the heart of darkness lonely and scared
With a promise of death for our love
And now that we’re free
From the chains of our dear love
I’m lost
So lost
The heart of darkness is hope of finding you there
And that hope will be our love’s requiem
Take me into your arms
And sing me your beautiful song
Hold me until we’re one
And sing me your beautiful song
It drains the faith that lights the dark and sets us free
From the chains of our war
And the pain we once called love
The poison of doubt enslaves our minds and we bleed
We abandon the trust that kept us blind and disappear
Under the crimson wings of hate
Where the lost are safe until they love again
The heart of darkness is hope of finding you there
And that hope will be our love’s requiem
We pray to the serpent of delight desperately
The questions are answered and we try not to weep
Until we are sure
We’re suffering for love
In the dungeon of our dreams we’re so weak
The promise made to be broken still haunts our sleep
And we won’t open our eyes
Afraid we would die for love again
The heart of darkness is hope of finding you there
And that hope will be our love’s requiem
The salvation we seek will be waiting us there
In the heart of darkness lonely and scared
With a promise of death for our love
And now that we’re free
From the chains of our dear love
I’m lost
So lost
The heart of darkness is hope of finding you there
And that hope will be our love’s requiem
Take me into your arms
And sing me your beautiful song
Hold me until we’re one
And sing me your beautiful song

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

I think the meaning is pretty clear. This person got really burned in a previous relationship, and because of this is unable to love and show care in his present one, even though he so badly wants to. It's lovely song, and very sad. You can really feel how defeated and frustrated he is with himself.
I think this is a super, sensual song. Something you can listen to when ur confused about love. I adore the last verse "Take me into your arms And sing me your beautiful song Hold me until we’re one And sing me your beautiful song"
I truely believe that Ville's lyrics are perpetual. People will wurshup them, and his voice forever.

This song is so beautiful, it sends shivers down my spine everytime I hear it. It's my favorite HIM song... so beautiful.
Eight minutes of awesomeness is how i would describe this song!
The heart of darkness is hope of finding you there And that hope will be our love’s requiem ~~~*~ quite possibly the best freakin lines i've ever heard
I agree with Chrisanti it's such a beautiful song. Having been through bad heartbreak it makes me feel so much stronger to listen to it, I cant really explain why I guess, it's very powerful to me. Especially love the end where Ville sings the words "Take me"/"Hold me" :)
I think this song is truly powerful, and the lyrics are so beautiful, but you really have to be in a certain mood to listen to it. It gets quite repetitive if you aren't really 'feeling' the song at that moment in time. However, I think it is undoubtedly an amazing song; what a way to finish off an album, especiqally-as everyone said-that last verse. The Path and Love's Requiem... Love Metal is such a wonderful album. It's definately my favourite one of HIM's.
LedZepp: If you're going to say a song is a waste of Eight Minutes, please back up your opinion and give reasons, otherwise you just look like a bit of a fool.
Thank you.
truly one of the most amazign and beautiful songs ever. i really really do worship this song...and Ville...and his voice...and HIM. but thats besides the point, i love it so much. anyways, i don't think this song really needs analyzing, as although it's so beautiful the meaning of the song is pretty straight forward. the confusingness of love. it's such a despairingly hopeful song if you get me. i mean, that deosn't really make sense at all but i guess it does to the song. the song just has such an effect on me emotionally it's so hard to explain. but the lines that have the most effect on me are
Take me into your arms And sing me your beautiful song Hold me until we’re one And sing me your beautiful song
so beautiful. bows down and worships His Infernal Majesty. y'know, i may start a cult where we worship HIM as gods themselves. i mean, so many people do that anyway but we should make it official. lol. anyways, rock on sweethearts \m/
Oh my God, I looooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvve this song soooooooooooo much! Whenever I hear it, different images/imaginations, visions, thoughts, and so on play over and over in my head. HIM RULES 4 EVER! Villie's voice, lyrics, and the way he sings them are truly wonderful. This band is or mostly is for people who in some way or form associate with love, death, or both since HIM's songs are about both love and death. The rest of the band is wonderful too. I wish they did music videos for all their songs, though I know there are videos for some songs and are working for other songs. This song will get a good video. i'm sure of it. I cannot wait to see them live and for their new album to come out (which is gonna be in 2007 according to wikipedia.org). I relate to all lyrics in this song, but love the lyrics from "I'm lost" all the way to the end of the song.
If the videos are done like Gone With The Sin was, I'm for it. Although I did like the Poison Girl music video though, but other than that, not really a fan of live music videos where the entire video is a band singing on stage somewhere.

But Love's Requiem is 8hrs. I think a little over that actually. Don't think they'll do a 8min long music video haha.
"listens to this song and from I'm lost to the very last lyric does The Undertaker's entire victory celebration from Unforgiven 1998"
P.S. sorry, forgot to add this part to the last comment.
Wow! A fellow Creature Of The Night! Totally awesome! I might have to do this myself!
