And loves light blue
Led me to you
Through all the emptiness that had become my home
Love's lies cruel
Introduced me to you
And that moment I knew I was out of hope

Kill me
I begged and love said no
Leave me
For dead and let me go
Kill me
I cried and love said no
Kill me
I cried and love said no

Love's icy tomb
Dug open for you
Lies in a cemetery that bares my name
Love's violent tune
From me to you
Rips your heart out and leaves you
Bleeding with a smile on your face

Kill me
I begged and love said no
Leave me
For dead and let me go
Kill me
I cried and love said no
Kill me
I cried and love said no

Loves light blue
Took me from you
And that moment I knew I was out of hope
Again

Kill me
I begged and love said no
Leave me
For dead and let me go
Kill me
I cried and love said no
Kill me
I cried and love said no

Love said no
And love said no

    My Interpretation

Personally I see this song in the form of Love playing a cruel joke on a person who's deeply in love with someone he/she can't exactly have.

The first verse is explaining the layout of the story (we'll go with a male for now as the hopeless romantic). He has finally found his match, but sadly for reasons unknown he can't have her. "Love lies cruel" means that he feels like Love has pulled a nasty joke on his heart, making him feel the way he does for this other person. He realized over time that there was no hope of this love happening. Maybe they were together before, who knows.

The chorus then explains that since he can't have the person he yearns for, he feels that Love will become the death of him. He pleads for death but he simply can't bring himself to it. He doesn't feel right on this earth, and would prefer to die than go on feeling the way he does.

The second verse shows that apathy is settling in. Since he has no hope, the love he had for this person is buried deep in his heart which he refers to as an icy tomb. No love, no reason to have a kind, caring heart. Love had made this person notice him as another cruel joke (Love's violent tune, from me to you..), but without that kind, loving heart inside of him, there's no reason to feel love for him so this person gives up on that thought.

In the end where it goes, "Love's light blue took me from you, and at that moment I knew that I was out of hope again," I believe that this is portraying the end of a tragedy. The man has become apathetic in his loss of hope for love, and the person he yearned for walked away without a second thought. He feels that love returning upon realizing that she walked away, but it's too late and there's no longer hope for that love.

I might be wrong, but that is what I pulled from the lyrics and I can strongly relate to this.

This is one of the new songs off of the And Love Said No CD, (Along with Solitary Man). This is just another wonderful song to add to the collection of all of the great HIM songs out there. There's also suppose to be a video for this song in the near future.

I red an interview with Ville Valo a few days ago where he said that this song is the most personal to him at the moment. And "that the lyrics we're a story about a relationship that doesn't work that well. About losing all hope about the future when it comes to love & romance, but in some way find the right person in the end of the tunnel.." [I translated it from swedish] Well, what Valo said is how I see the lyrics & the song. Glad that I understood it :)..

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
