I need to be around you
I want to fall into your eyes
I love to feel you close to me
But there's no peace of mind
I live to hear you laughing
I long to feel your hands fall down
Along the side of me
A change of life is hard to find
There's no peace of mind

if you ever need somebody
If you ever need somebody to love you
If you ever need somebody
You can count on me

So kiss me for believing
Love me now for always knowing
When to let you go
A change of life is hard to find
There's no peace of mind

If you ever need somebody
If you ever need somebody to love you
If you ever need somebody
You can count on me

There's no peace of mind
Change is hard to find
Count on me

If you ever need, if you ever need
If you ever need, if you ever need
If you ever need somebody you can count on me

If you ever need somebody
If you ever need somebody to love you
If you ever need somebody
You can count on me

Song MeaningHmm, its definitively a love song, but it seems like its a one way love.

I get the feeling that the main character loves someone and initially she loves him too, but she seems to grow away from him and because he loves her so much he is willing to let her go, but because of what they had he will always love her regardless and there is a place for her if she changes her mind.

    Or something like that :)

    Great song regardless

General CommentAt the end of a rough relationship, when the girl finally moved back to her home state, she sent me Head On Straight by Tonic and said that this song, Count On Me, was her message to me. We had tried for years to make it work but knew that it wouldn't. We loved each other and wanted the other to be happy and sadly, the only way for that to happen was for us to go our separate ways.

I view this song through that lens. For me, the singer is saying that he loves her ("I love to feel you close to me"), but it's not going to work ("But there's no peace of mind"). He wants to wish her well ("Love me now for always knowing when to let you go"), but the letting her go is so painful that he has to leave this open invitation to her, saying that he will always be there if and when she should need him again.

It's an expression of love and solidarity and sadness and hope.
