"Criminals" as written by Anders Nystrom and Jonas Petter Renkse....
The way the light hits the road
The way I am unable to protect you
Oh I'm running away
I will never forgive myself
For running away from you

He came back to your house
I didn't take it as a promise
Always thought it was a lie
He went too far the fucker
It's not like I owe him money
This is different

So gather your strength and break free
Or you will surely die
Gather your strength don't follow me
Cause I will surely die

The way my eyes cannot move
The way I hope to be protected
And for one moment I thought
That I was lost among the lights of houses

He came back to your house
I didn't take it as a promise
Always thought it was a lie
He went too far the fucker
It's not like I owe him money
This is different

So gather your strength and break free
Or you will surely die
Gather your strength don't follow me
Cause I will surely die

My dreams of violence
See them coming true

He came back to your house
I didn't take it as a promise
Always thought it was a lie
He went too far the fucker
It's not like I owe him money
This is different

So gather your strength and break free
Or you will surely die
Gather your strength don't follow me
Cause I will surely die

General Comment I think it's about someone who wanted to be strong and dreamed of violence (as said in the last line) in this world filled with apathy. He wanted to rise above the ''all are equal''. He ends up messing with the wrong people, they threaten him (or something like that) and he thought they were bluffing so he keeps pushing. In the end he realizes they aren't and because of all that he has done his loved one could go down with him. Therefore he tells her to break free from this boring place (town or whatever) and he will too but she shouldn't go with him because he's probably gonna get killed even if he tries to leave. When the time finally comes, for a second he hopes someone will help him but then he realizes no one will because he alienated almost everyone by pretending he was superior (in the beginning). Finally he dies and realizes his dreams of violence come true. And maybe, I like to think, he doesn't regret it because it made him feel, something he couldn't do in this world full of false emotions.

Forgot one thing, the part where he says ''He went too far the fucker
It's not like I owe him money'' is when he realizes they aren't kidding and he's kind of shocked saying ''it's not like I owe him money''.

Well anyways I guess I kind of got this whole story going in my head but I really felt like typing this since I rarely get this much imagination. It probably isn't what he meant to say writing these lyrics but everyone interprets them their own way. ;)

General Commentwow...when i first heard this i was like..totally blown away.. They've done an amazing job capturing a certain atmosphere as they always do. I just can't get enough of the way he sings ''he went to far that fucker, it's not like i owe him money, this is different''. It's makes me feel an intense kind of jealousy, i love it.

General Commentlove this one makes me think about this feeling a lot
"The way the light hits the road
The way I am unable to protect you"
    and..
"The way my eyes cannot move
The way I hope to be protected"

I get into such deep thoughts with these lines
cant get enough of Katatonia and this song and this album \m/
