Rockin' in the Free World (Neil Young cover) Lyrics

Theres colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin their feet
People sleepin in their shoes
But theres a warnin sign on the road ahead
Theres a lot of people sayin wed be better off dead
Dont feel like satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it, any way I can.

Keep on rockin in the free world,
Keep on rockin in the free world
Keep on rockin in the free world,
Keep on rockin in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away, and shes gone to get a hit
She hates her life, and what shes done to it
Theres one more kid that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin in the free world,
Keep on rockin in the free world
Keep on rockin in the free world,
Keep on rockin in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin in the free world,
Keep on rockin in the free world
Keep on rockin in the free world,
Keep on rockin in the free world.

I love this song! I hadn't really heard any of Pearl Jams songs until a friend of mine let me copy some CD's and this is one of the songs that made me say... "ok... these guys are cool..."

Bush needs to loop this song and see if he can learn something. You don't spread freedom at the business end of a gun. 2008 can't come soon enough.

this song is an exegis on american life, no matter what you see there is always some thing under the surface...I'd ahte to say it, because pearl jamk is seriously my favortie band in the world.......but neil young still owns this song, I saw a recent version of it and it blows away any version pearl jam has done....but pearl jam is still the greatest band on the face of the earth...

Saw them with my bro a while back

Didn't top "Alive" that night (nothing tops "Alive" EVER), but it sure did end the show on a high note

They've actually done this live with Neil before too. Sucks I couldn't see that

yeah NO CODE got it right, both times... the meaning and the fact that Pearl Jam is the greatest band to ever walk this planet.

definetly Eddie doesn't said: "I see a woman in the night" he says something like "I see the dirter of the night."

"I see a girl in the night"

It's not always clear in the actual PJ version of Rockin' In the Free World, but the Live on Two Legs version of Daughter segues into that verse of Free World and it's clear as day.

Not Valid

The Pinkpop '92 version with the Suggestion/Pulled Up tab is fucking GREAT, one of the best live performances of all time.
