She said, "Life's a lot to think about sometimes
When you're living in between the lines
And all the stars are sparkling, shine everyday"

He said, "Life's so hard to move in sometimes
When it feels like I'm towin' the line
And no one even cares to ask me, why I feel this way"

And I know you feel helpless now
And I know you feel alone
That's the same road
And the same road that I'm on, yeah

He said, "Life's a lot to think about sometimes
When you keep it all between the lines
And everything I want and I want to find one of these days" yeah

But what you thought was real in life
Oh, has somehow steered you wrong
And now you just keep drivin'
Tryin' to find out where you could belong

And I know you feel helpless now
And I know you feel alone
Well that's the same road
And the same road that I'm on, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey, hey

What you thought was real in life
Has somehow steered you wrong
And now you just keep drivin'
Tryin' to find where you belong

I know you feel helpless now
And I know you feel alone
That's the same road
And the same road that I'm on, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey, hey

Oh no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh no, no, no
Oh no, no, no, no

My InterpretationI think this song is just about someone explaining to a down person that he understands him/her, and the singer uses this to give this message to everyone : even if life sometimes feels meaningless and really hard, we are not alone, there is always someone feeling the same, on "the same road".

In the first verse, there are 2 persons talking :
The first one is a girl, and she says :
"Life's a lot to think about sometimes, When you're in between the lines"
These lines are really important, as they are a central part of the whole song. These lines are just limits. She's basically saying that she's bored of this life, and she has a lot to think about which is tiring her.
Her next line : "And all the stars are sparkling, shine everyday" is her envying the persons that are out of these limits she impose herself. She sees them shining, like beautiful stars.

The second person is a man, he says :
"Life's so hard to move in sometimes, When it feels like I'm towing the line".
He thinks the opposite way : he feels like he's pulling the limits too far with him.
"and no one ever cares to ask me why I feel this way" : he's popular, he's the person that the girl saw shining, but he feels really alone, he feels like no one cares about him.

In the chorus, it's the narrator (probably the singer) speaking :
He adresses his message to the two people speaking (in his mouth by the way, the verse says "he says" so the man isn't really talking, it's only the narrator), but also to everyone listening : you are not alone.
"And I know you feel helpless now, And I know you feel alone" :
He understands the situation, he understands the people feeling down, because : "That's the same road that I'm on". He feels, or has felt the same one day. Even if we think we're alone, nobody understands us, and nobody loves us, that's not true. There are always supporting people around us, we just need to find them.

The next verse, a man is speaking (we don't know if he's the same than the first or a new one, I think it's a new one.) : "life's a lot to think about sometimes, When you keep it all between the lines" : he feels exactly the same as the girl from the first verse.
"And everything I want and I want to find one of these days" : He has dreams, he wants things, but he doesn't know how to achieve them, or how to do it.

The chorus once again, but the first part is completely different from the first :
"But what you thought was real in life, Oh it somehow steered you wrong" :
Sometimes, we have a bad feeling, and it happens to be real. It happens to everyone.
"And I know you just keep drivin', Trying to find where you belong" :
He knows that we're strong, we're never gonna give up (never gonna let down, you just got rickrolled), and we'll always be looking for a way to feel better, to get out of the sadness tunnel we're in.

So, this song is just a hopeful message to all the people feeling down !

General CommentI think that it's a guy (possibly the singer (one of the greatest voices ever)) telling this girl, that it might not be alright, but he's there with her. He's just as helpless and alone as her, they're in this together ..

General CommentI really like this song. 3 Doors Down is like a vent for me. All of those pent up feelings I have...All of it...goes away when I listen to this stuff. Good tune.

General CommentI think the song is about how confusing life is. But even when its the most messed up, there are still people there that are going through the same thing and they'll be there for you.

General Commenthmm I think this song means something along the lines of:
"Life may be tough at times but with us by each others side and there for each other, we can make it through anything."
Thats what I believe anyway, that you could help this person and they could help you since your both in the same boat and feel the same.
Bah, my point of view isn't so great I know, never is but oh well, as long as people are willing to listen to it and it to be heard...@_@

General CommentThis is the only song I like by this band. It's so good though, it out-weighs all their other sucky stuff.

General Commentok you are all stupid except for furioku and random hero, your supposed to comment on the damn song not how you think the band sounds, if you don't have anything intelligent to say like oh this band is "sucky" then you shouldn't be commenting on it
I totally agree with furioku in the sense that he is describing what it's like to be a loner or someone who doesn't feel like they belong at all, it might also be talking about a drug habit but most likely not, i'm just thinking aloud, and the line "When it feels like I’m towin' the line" means that he feels like he has all of these problems dargging him down or holding him back from what he wants to do or become (maybe a drug addiction) but the singer is saying that he has been there or is there and knows what the person is going through

General CommentI agree with you ((Chaunce bags)) It really annoys me when people say "TIS SoNg ROxxXXs!! I LURVFS TMEH!!!! LYKE OMGZZRZ!!"
or "I HATEZ THEISE BANZ! THE SUXERZ!!! HAHA!! I LIYKE KOOLZ CAUSE I HATEZ YUR FAV BANZD!!"

Seriously. State if you like the song or not. If you do like it (or even if you don't I suppose) state what it means to you.

Now, this song I think is about how life can sometimes seem like its turned against you (ie a bump in the road), but you just have to keep walking down the road of life to get to better parts.

i think, there's a disharmony between the real story of the track and the story in the video.
