The Tracks of My Tears Lyrics
Because I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
I need you, need you
Seeming like I'm having fun
Although she may be cute
She's just a substitute
Because you're the permanent one
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
I need you, need you
Inside my hope is fading
Just a clown oh yeah
Since you put me down
My smile is my make up
I wear since my break up with you
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears

this song was in platoon. it was during the scene when they were all smoking their troubles away. it was fitting for that scene because it shows that despite outward appearances theres inner turmoil, that even though theyre trying to forget where they are and what theyre doing, inside theyre in pain.

i cant believe theres only one comment on this.
its about how you have to put on a brave face even when you're completely torn apart inside from needing somebody who isnt there anymore. story of the last year of my life.

i hate american idol but did you see smokey give adam lambert a standing ovation when he acoustically covered this song on air. it was a moment to see. Smokey can write some moving words yo, no matter who's singing 'em

One of the best written songs of all time. What other song would you hear a line that went "My smile is my makeup I wear since my breakup with you?" The song embodies the true genius of Smokey Robinson as a ssongwriter.

Another thing about Platoon: I was watching the dvd with the comments track on and Oliver Stone was talking during the scene how this music helped them stay sane and humane and said that "...humanity is engraved to this music". That's something that describes the whole motown music and why I love it.

thank god for american idol and adam lambert's rendition of this amazing song..otherwise i never would have known about it .)

Personally, I prefer the Justin Hayward version! ;)

One of the best pop love songs of all time. Perfectly sums up how someone tries to hide sadness with a smile. Smokey is a lyrical genius.

The face of depression is often a happy one.
