Heard you today.
That isn't my name.
You were fast asleep.
Forget what he did.
Can I be the kid,
For your soul to keep?

[Chorus]
Some of us laugh.
Some of us cry.
Some of us smoke.
Some of us lie.
But it's all just the way,
That we cope with our lives.

I've grown to see,
The philosophy,
Of my own mistrust.
We all have our faults.
Mine come in waves,
That you turn to rust.

[Chorus]

I've been hangin'
Onto somethin'.
You keep laughin',
Awe inspirin'.

[Chorus: x2]

My wandering soul
Found solace at last I wanted to know
How long it would last I'm losing control
Coming down fast
This heart that I stole I'll never give it back
I'll never give it back

ah, i absotutely love this song. i think it's just about the way people ::cough:: cope with their lives. There are so many behaviors that people issue to deal with the stress and pressures that plague our lives

I love this song too. The first lines however do suggest that infidelity may have governed some of the verses in this song. Or perhaps about a relationship that is on the rocks do to someones faults or perhaps not being able to cope with the mistreatment of a past lover and that affecting the relationship.

"Heard you today, that isn't my name, you were fast asleep, Forget what he did, can I be the kid for your soul to keep?"

The chorus might have been written to comfort his SO. Perhaps part of it is about her having trouble with her past and things she's done to cope with herself and he's trying to say it doesn't matter and we've all done things we're not proud of.

"I've grown to see the philosophy of my own mistrust, We all have our faults, mine come in waves that you turn to rust,"

"She's losing control, she's coming down fast,"

Thats just kinda my take on the song since I don't exactly know what it's about through his own w.o.m. it could also be about his own faults but I think the lyrics suggest that he's definitely talking to someone in this song...a woman..and I just think it could be his love interest. Ya know...could be wrong though I dunno ha. Great song

Music is always subjective. I view this song about intrusive thoughts and how we all cope with them. A man whos anxious about most things hears his wife say the name of her ex "that isn't my name" "forget what he did" The man realizes he has the same types of thoughts as his wife even if he doesn't want to. He then goes into detail about how we cope with these unwanted thoughts. The end of the song could suggest his wife cheated on him, or it could be him coming to peace with his thoughts.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
