Not for the first time
I'm having second thoughts
In the days we used to shoplift
I was always getting caught
But we were penniless
And penitence was more than I could afford

For the last time:
You'll be fine
That was forever ago
And better left behind
At the strangest of times
It weighs on your mind

If we're not getting better
At least we're getting by
Not working's not working
So give something else a try
I'm watching closely
While my girlfriend shows me how to tie a tie

General Commentsuch a sweet song, the speaker's trying to get past a past full of petty crime and unemployment, most likely getting ready for an interview or something of that nature. he wants to move on but he's haunted and made nervous by his less than spotless youth. luckily though, he's got a loving girlfriend who is trying to calm his nerves while tieing his tie and getting him all ready. i love songs about moments frozen in time
