Hold on John
John hold on, it's gonna be alright
You're gonna win the fight

Hold on Yoko
Yoko hold on, it's gonna be alright
You're gonna make the flight

When you're by yourself
And there's no one else
You just have yourself
And you tell yourself
Just to hold on

(Cookie, cookie)

Hold on world
World hold on, it's gonna be alright
You're gonna see the light

Oh, and when you're one
Really one
Well you get things done
Like they never been done
So hold on

General CommentThe consensus is that Lennon was briefly interested-to-obsessed with the Cookie Monster during the summer of 1970 when he was undergoing "Primal Therapy" in the US. This makes sense, as one of the points of Janov's therapy was to regress the patients to childhood, and "Sesame Street" (having premiered November 1969) was gaining traction. It would also be a very Lennon thing for him to drive the band (which included Ringo) to distraction with descriptions of the show and its characters (which would not have migrated there yet) while recording "John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band." Thus, a few years later, when Ringo made his shout out, it would've just been a memory from "Early 1970."

My OpinionThis is definitely the most musically proficient song on the "Plastic Ono Band" as well as one of the most beautiful (besides arguably Look At Me and Love). Really a great song.

General CommentIs it me or does the part where he says "cookie" scares the shit out of you when he says it. It's such a calm song and then you hear this evil voice say "cookie." What is with that anyways???

General CommentThie songs were sequenced well on this album, alternating the Janov therapy screams/rants with interludes like this. The 'cookie' is obviously Sesame Street-influenced. This is 1971, after all!
