I got a girlfriend, she goes to art school
I got a art school girlfriend, yeah
I got a girlfriend, she got a girlfriend
We gotta girlfriend, then she gotta go

She left her home from sweet Alabama
Rose Alabama for the city, New York City, yeah
She left her home from sweet Alabama
Rose Alabama for the city, New York City, yeah

I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times

I gotta girlfriend, she goes to parties
Underground parties, Andy Warhol everywhere
She wears the leather, I wear the makeup
We'll never break up, been together for a month

She left her home from sweet Alabama
Rose Alabama for the city, New York City, yeah
She left her home from sweet Alabama
Rose Alabama for the city, New York City, yeah

I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times

(Da na na na, na na na na na)
Five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you
(Da na na na, na na na na na)
Five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you
(Da na na na, na na na na na, na na na)

I got a girlfriend, she goes to art school
I got a art school girlfriend, yeah
I got a girlfriend, she got a girlfriend
We gotta girlfriend, then she gotta go

She left her home from sweet Alabama
Rose Alabama for the city, New York City, yeah
She left her home from sweet Alabama
Rose Alabama for the city, New York City, yeah

Five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times

I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times
I told you five or four times

I think this is a song about a guy that has a pretentious girlfriend, who isn't as smart and funny as he or she thinks she is. He's obviously "in love" with her but it's that thin infatuation type of love. The lyrics "We'll never break up, been together for a month" are hilarious. "She wears the leather, I wear the make-up" show how she's wearing the pants the relationship. The screaming "I told you four or five times" is her abusing him.

It's also about how weird and freaky Art School girls can be.

What a weird song! It's weird the way in that one part they keep on alternating between Scott screaming "I told you five or four times" and then to that weird vocalizing soft part again and agian. It's an alright song and I don't think it has much of a meaning.

When I look at these lyrics I envision a psychotic locked up in a psychiatric hospital. The lyrics are the story he invents about a girl he obsesses about. And he goes nuts (hence the brashness of the chorus) when the hospital docs ask him to explain his obsession.

No comment on what dengeist said ;)
But this song is so cool and catchy and then that chorus just bitch slaps you right in the face. it's a cool and fun song. Maybe if it were a more serious group i'd probably not like it as much but c'mon it's the Stone Temple Pilots.... You just can't take them serious

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
