Hands up and don't you make a sound
Shotgun is pointed at me now
It just might blow me away
So here's all I have
It isn't much but please
All I ask is
Let me walk away
Just then I thought I heard the sound

I never had this feeling so cold
I stood their freezing
And waiting
I never had this feeling so cold
It seemed too easy
It seemed too easy to be gone

Hands out before I kiss the ground
Shotgun still pointed at me now
Ready to blow me away
And I don't think I will make it home tonight
Don't think I will make it out alive
That's when I then I thought I heard the sound

I never had this feeling so cold
I stood their freezing
And waiting
I never had this feeling so cold
It seemed too easy
It seemed too easy to be gone

Each night I dream it all again
Steel barrel up against my head
Each night I never get away
It's shots fired shots fired shots

If the light should take me
Then tonight I'll be free

I never had this feeling so cold
I stood their freezing
And waiting
I never had this feeling so cold
It seemed to easy
It seemed to easy to be gone

I'm blessed by a nightmare nightly
And when I'm dying it reminds me
I grab the air now and hold it tightly
Remember everything I love
Then I'm gone

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
