Been natural for once in my life
Now I'll have to swallow some pride
Know that I should never give advice
But it's too late now to say goodbye

Be natural don't want any friends
Be natural come on and hit me again
Be natural I'm repeating myself
Be natural is there anything else

Starbright
Keep me safe, today and tonight
No water tastes like lemonade
Slowly slowly it starts to fade

Be natural with me tonight
Be natural put your fists in my eyes
Be natural so turn me to stone
Be natural just leave me alone

Grown up or backwards born
Into eternity and black holes
Floating around up here on my own
Screaming at me forever unknown

Be natural, be natural, be natural
Be natural, is there anyone else?

I love the middle eight w "keep me safe today and tonight" they build up to the wall of sound and oh man when they get there its magical.

Not sure what the song means - perhaps about wanting out of a so-called 'natural' relationship, such as a marriage.

Still, it's one of my favourite by the Manics - understated and beautiful.

It's a simple, but effective lyric. Be natural, not contrived, be yourself, don't act unnaturally

    My Interpretation

I think this is about the world expecting you to behave in a certain way, to be cool, not to show much emotions, to be rough... And if you are natural, they make fun of you.

Reminds me of "The Idiot" by Dostoyevski: a guy who tried to live by common sense, disregarding the social rules.

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
