Hero Lyrics
but we feel like we do and we make fun of him
cause you want to belong, do you go along?
cause his pain is the price paid for you to belong
it's not like you hate him or want him to die
but maybe he goes home and thinks suicide
or he comes back to school with a gun at his side
and a kindness from you might have saved his life
you could be a hero - you might save a life
you could be a hero - you could join the fight
for what's right, for what's right, for what's right
she's in too much pain to survive on her own
the hurt she can't handle overflows to a knife
she writes on her arm, wants to give up her life
each day she goes on is a day that she's brave
fighting the lie that giving up is the way
each moment of courage
her own life she saves
when she throws the pills out, a hero is made
you could be a hero - you might save a life
you could be a hero - you could join the fight
for what's right, for what's right, for what's right
he thinks that the choices he makes are just his
doesn't know he's a leader with the way he behaves
and others will follow the choices he's made
he lives on the edge, he's old enough to decide
his brother who wants to be him is just nine
he can do what he wants, because it's his right
the choices he makes change a nine year old's life
you could be a hero - you might save a life
you could be a hero - you could join the fight
for what's right, for what's right, for what's right
you could be a hero - you might save a life
you could be a hero - you could join the fight
for what's right, for what's right, for what's right

The first time I heard this song I almost cried! Because okay, I'm not the nicest person to the "outcasts." I'm getting a lot better, but I still have a lot of room for improvement. I mean, what IF that kid I made fun of last week just got tired of it all and brought a gun to school and killed the people who tormented him as well as himself? Now whenever I'm tempted to make fun of a kid because he or she is different, I think of this song.
Good for you that you're learning. Try giving the "outcasts" a chance. They might be very good friends underneath the superficial differences.

We had a wounderful girl at our school commit suicide and at church we listened to this song and it struck me hard. The message is so true and it has changed how i treat people. Why make someone's life hell just to make yourself fit in. Rest in peace Angie

my stepfather's sister one day was in a cemetary and she saw this woman leaning over a grave, she looked very upset. So his sister at first was just going to go on her way, figuring that she wanted her peace. But suddenly she decided to go over there and just touch the lady on the shoulder and give her a small comfort. The lady had a gun in her hand, she was going to shoot herself that day. Had not his sister decided to share her kindness with this woman, she might have. Thats what this song is about....kindness and love.
Wow, what an amazing story.

wow this song changed my life

i agree with everyone, this song is truely moving, i dont think you can listen to this song and not take something away from it, its an amazing song and i absolutley love it and its artist, superchick. im not a christian but that doesnt matter coz you dont have to be one to feel all the stuff that this song talks about, superchick sure do know how to rock!!

I agree luvin_thebeat. I am not into christian music, I dunno why but I do like superchick. At first i was like "pift more christian music" but omg this is so moving and i took a lot out of it. I really did. If i see a loner walking past me i will give them a smile and say "hiii!" because you never know...this small kindness might save a life. Such a simple gesture...such a big impact.

No need to explain the meaning--its pretty clear. Great song, and I agree it can very well be life changing. A completely different perspective on outcasts.

this song has literally changed my life. i listened to it and i thought about some of the kids i know in my school who are always left out, talked about, and other things. i pictured them not being in school the next day, hearing about them killing themselves...and, it just hurt me so much that i just started making promises to God and myself that i'd try and help these people. show them that not everyone is bad. to show them what love is.
"no one talks to her, she feels so alone she's in too much pain to survive on her own the hurt she can't handle overflows to a knife she writes on her arm, wants to give up her life each day she goes on is a day that she's brave fighting the lie that giving up is the way each moment of courage her own life she saves when she throws the pills out, a hero is made"
