"Leech" as written by Ben Kenney, Brandon Charles Boyd, Michael Aaron Einziger, Christopher E Kilmore and Jose Anthony Pasillas Ii....
Does it make you envy?
Does it make you proud?
To tuck the world into a paper bag
This body's state of "I'm OK, you're not OK"
Yes, men, too, could be on the rag

I'm over my head I need a pick-me-up
Its easy to get high when you're standing on our backs, man
Would anything ever be good enough for you?
Stand on your own, hold your water if you can

The ride's over, did you enjoy yourself?
The ride's over, fair thee well
The ride's over, did you enjoy yourself?
The ride's over, fair thee well
Not on my time

It isn't fair to mention, but it awes the crowd
Your fictional, plastic alibi
So take another hit, steal another line
Did you ever meet a leech who was good at goodbyes?

When you were down I always picked you up
Why didn't I recognize that everything was never fine?
I'm kicking myself that I shared spit with you
So fuck yourself
And fuck this bleeding heart of mine

The ride's over, did you enjoy yourself?
The ride's over, fair thee well
The ride's over, did you enjoy yourself?
The ride's over, fair thee well
Not on my time

When you were down I always picked you up
Why didn't I recognize that everything was never fine?
I'm kicking myself that I shared spit with you
So fuck yourself and fuck this bleeding heart of mine

The ride's over, did you enjoy yourself?
The ride's over, fair thee well
The ride's over, did you enjoy yourself?
The ride's over, fair thee well

The ride's over

General CommentThe correct lyrics to the first verse are:

Does it make you indie, does it make you proud
To talk the world into a paper bag
    Spotty stain of I'm o.k. you're not o.k.
Yes men too can be on the rag

General Commenteh, to me it's talking about a dumb girl who was too clingy and just sucked the life out of the story teller... and no, not in the naughty way hehe
hence the whole leech part. and he's saying how he was blind to not see what was really going on, because i guess he was in love but he regrets being so caring (i'm kicking myself that i share...)
she doesn't want to go (did u ever meet a leech that was goodbyes), but he's like go away (rides over)

good song, i'm suprised there's only one comment,... well two now

General CommentThat song is written in second and a half person. Lyrically, I stepped into what in my mind was what somebody else was trying to say at a very specific situation and couldn't say, so I basically stepped into their voice and said it for them. And that's all I can really say...

General Commentamazing song. best on the album.

it's about falling in love with this girl, but he loses it with her, and he's kicking himself to have ever met her.

    General CommentBasically translates as:

    Met a girl.
    Liked her.
    She fucked him about.
    He got pissed.

    My sentiments at the moment.

General CommentThis song is not about Dirk Lance, thats one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Whoever said that 'it's easy to get high when your standing on our backs' meant that dirk got famous off the other members of the band is stupid. Dirk Lance was not at all famous, he was rarely recognized by fansas seen in MTV's diaries. And what little fame he does have he earned by being an incredible bassist. This song is about about a girl, 'I'm kicking myself that I shared spit with you'. yeah, I'm sure Dirk and Brandon had plenty of secret make-out sessions.

General CommentIt's about a girl who was too clingy (leech) and he doesn't want to be with her anymore but she refuses to end it 'did you ever meet a leech that was good at goodbyes?'. But it doesn't really matter what a song was written about, what makes it good is that its vague enough to make you think and apply it to something you can relate to. Like the guy who said it reminds him of a friend on drugs.

General CommentThis song is about Dirk Lance, the ex-bassist of incubus. "I'm over my head
    I need a pick-me-up
Its easy to get high when you're standing on our backs, man" -- "our backs" refers to the other members of the band and "getting high" is making a name for yourself and having fame for being in the band

General CommentI think this song is about a cokehead girlfriend of his. When you take a line of coke and take another small line after that, it is often called a pick-me-up. After a coke high is over, many times people are very down on themselves because they just wasted money one such a stupid thing. "Take another hit, steal another line" that ones a lil obvious. He talks about sharing spit as in kissing. When in the presence of a cokehead, nothing is ever fine. They lie and they cheat to get what they want.
