"I'll try," she said as he walked away
"Try not to lose you"
Two vibrant hearts could change
Nothing tears the being more than deception, unmasked fear
"I'll be here waiting tested and secure"

Nothing hurts my world
Just affects the ones around me
When sin's deep in my blood
You'll be the one to fall

"I wish I could be the one
The one who won't care at all
But being the one on the stand
I know the way to go, no one's guiding me
When time soaked with blood turns its back
I know it's hard to fall
Confided in me was your heart
I know it's hurting you, but it's killing me"

Nothing will last in this life
Our time is spent constructing
Now you're perfecting a world, meant to sin
Constrict your hands around me
Squeeze till I cannot breathe
This air tastes dead inside me
Contribute to our own plague
Break all your promises
Tear down this steadfast wall
Restraints are useless here
Tasting salvation's near

Nothing hurts my world
Just affects the ones around me
When sin's deep in my blood
You'll be the one to fall

"I wish I could be the one
The one who won't care at all
But being the one on the stand
I know the way to go, no one's guiding me
When time soaked with blood turns its back
I know it's hard to fall
Confided in me was your heart
I know it's hurting you, but it's killing me"

See what I think the people who say it's about love is right. I'll trying she said as she walked away try not to lose you

she walked away and he was doing his best trying notto lose her but it still happened. two vibrant hearts could change is the hope he had that it could be different in the future. nothing tears the being more then deception, unmasked fear. his refferance the being tearing by deception is his heart shattering from her lying to him. unmasked fear would be reffering to the fear she had and has. the next line gives that away

I'll be here waiting, tested and secure.

Meaning though she's gone he waits for her secure that she's the one he wants to be with forever.

nothing hurts my world just affects the ones around me, when sin's deep in my blood you'll be the one to fall.

that would mean he doesn't let the pain of her being gone but he lets the people around him feel his loss. And when lies are deep within him she'll be the one to feel the pain she caused him. She'll be the one to fall.

I wish I could be the one, the one who won't care at all. but being the one on the stand, I know the way to go, no one's guiding me When time soaked with blood turns its back I know know it's hard to fall, confided in me was your heart. I know it's hurting you but it's killing me.

this whole part of the song is actually sung to the girl He wishes he could be her and not care at all. but being the one people know as the nice guy he knows he's doing the right thing and he's guided by his gut feeling. when he's been with her for so long and she turns her back he knows it's hard to let go but he has to because she isn't there anymore. He's sayin she trusted him with everything. But the way she treated him through it all and in the end he knows it's hurting her but killing him.

Nothing, will last in this life. our time is spent constructing now you're perfecting a world....Meant to sin. Constrict your hands around me squeeze till I cannot breathe, this air tastes dead inside me Contribute to our plague. break all your promises break down these steadfast walls restraints are useless here tasting salvations near.

Basically this is him saying through the effort of giving her the wanting to stay with him she stll wanted to change the world to how she wanted it. she got angry with him enough to kill him for him telling her she was wrong so she started revenging against him but breaking promises tearing down the walls they had built aroun each other. meaning he'd been with her from the start.

the referrance to tasting salvation would be reffering to "saving" basically she thinks he can save him by hurting him. but that's my concept of it. and the funny thing is that I'm not even xian but that song is held close to me because of the fact that something like that happened with me in the fairly recent past. And this happens to be the song I'm reminded of her by.

    My Interpretation

This is about a person who realizes that the person they're in a relationship with does not feel the same way they do. "I'll try not to lose you" is a statement devoid of any emotion or love. This implies that the narrator had just poured out his heart to her and received a loveless response.

The lines "Nothing hurts my world, just affects the ones around me, when sins deep in my blood, youll be the one to fall." Is the girl confessing that the unholy things she has done in the past don't bother her, just the ones who love her. The narrator wishes he didn't care about them at all. The way the girl's past makes him feel hurts her, but its killing him.

The narrator comes then comes to the realization in the second verse that his expectations are unrealistic. He can't take back the sins the girl has committed, and he can't stop her from sinning in the future. Its pointless to try to perfect a world meant to sin.

In the end, all their original promises are broken and the steadfast wall that was their relationship is torn down. The two are still together since the narrator has come to terms with her unholy confessions, but the relationship will never be the same.

My take on this song is that the woman has committed adultery, hence the title "Unholy Confessions", as adultery is unholy, as it is mentioned in the 10 commandments.

"I'll try (not to lose you)", the woman is sorry for what she has done, and even though she has made the mistake, she wants him back.

"Two vibrant hearts could change" - This is saying that both his and her hearts have been broken. His, because he has been hurt by the woman's actions - his heart does not want to be broken again, so it is trying to make the man not love the woman any more, and the woman's heart has been hurt because the man she really loves does not love her any more.

"Nothing tears the being more than deception", he is calling himself "the being" because he is so depressed that he doesn't feel human any more, and he feels like he has been torn in half because it hurts so much. And he has been deceived...so yeah, that bit is self explanatory.

I'l leave the rest, as I don't have much time, but you can kind of guess the rest by looking at it and relating it to adultery. It's basically a song about how he has been hurt and how he feels dead and depressed.

Well, that's how I see it anyway... :'D

this song is about how love is basicly stupid, it doesn't last. We only try to make our world better by loving and getting married but... BREAKDOWN... basicly love won't last >(Nothing will last in this life,) we spend oour whole live creatingthis fake immage of ourselves and what our lives are supposed to be> (our time is spent constructing,) we try to make imperfect things perfect - recall Adam & Eve- (now you're perfecting a world... meant to sin.) ... love is a disease> (contribute to our plague.) love isn't unfaithful, although we swear it is> (Break all your promises,) You say love is unbreakable but I'll tear it down> (tear down this steadfast wall,) You can't stop me> (restraints are useless here,) It will all be revealed in time. (tasting salvation's near.)

Think this is a bit more complex, but mostly the other answers have the general dea.

I think that this is about the things that mental illness does to people and makes people do.

It's clear that the "she" in this story has committed adultery from the first stanza.

Not caring about hurting a person you supposedly love but caring about yourself when you've lost that person, or a part of the relationship you lost due to your deceit of that person is a characteristic of many mental illnesses, most specifically NPD (Narcissistic personality disorder). A lack of empathy and the glorification of the self and continuous quest for gratification of the self's emotional energy requirements, fueled by the depletion of other's emotional energy. This is embodied by the 2nd stanza.

I think this song is mostly about the burden of forgiveness that adulterous behaviour of emotionally unstable people imposes on the primary victims (ie the one who has been deceived), and how the burden of forgiveness, feelings of pain and fatalistic emotional depletion, ie "the fall", which causes immense emotional damage is placed on the deceived. This is embodied by the first half of the third stanza.

The third stanza concludes in the deceived giving in to "the fall", and forgiving the deceiver, embodied by "I know the way to go, no one's guiding me. When time soaked with blood turns its back, I know it's hard to fall." This is evidence of the codependency that often exists in emotional relationships between people that have personality disorders. It ends with the observation that the deceivers behaviour hurts themselves, in terms of the cutting off of their supply of emotional energy, but progressively results in the emotional "killing" of the host, leading to depression, loss of will to live etc.

The last stanza basically points out the logical fact that the deceiver is destroying the world for both parties, and ultimately they don't need to care about it because they will be absolved in salvation (I think this is a sarcastic line).

That's my interpretation. A bit too . much analytical psychology, but I think a lot of their songs deal with these kinds of mental issues.

I don't think they're is another metal band out there that can make a metal song have more meaning like Avenged Sevenfold can, they are amazing. This is is my favorite song by them, and it's an amazing song. I think the meaning of it is that love is blind, and it never goes the way one plans, or expects it to.

I always thought he said "with ginseng in my blood" hahah Anywayyy... I love the parts that say "I wish I could be the one-- the one who won't care at all" and "I know it's hurting you, but it's killing me." It just gives you the whole picture of the relationship and how crushed that person feels. It's like an awakening and finally accepting the fact that this person isn't right, but will never understand the pain. Like when someone says "I'll try" you can just tell how little emotion is there. When you really care, you hang on and never let go. You always remember because you miss what you lost or realized you could never have what you wanted. This reminds me of a relationship I had where I just kept saying "I wish I didn't care." It just hurts so bad to see someone whom you loved move on without you. I never had a problem with deception, though; just apathy. I think in the song, it's talking about someone leaving for an unknown reason, then coming back to confess that she's cheated. She said she'd "try" b/c they wanted to make a long-distance relationship work, but she wasn't strong enough or didn't care enough. He basically feels like his world is falling apart because she was unfaithful and he doesn't believe in love anymore. So I guess that's different than my personal connection to the song, but I think that's the story conveyed here. I love A7X and how they can tell stories like this in every song. Like A Little Piece of Heaven is so fucked up lol but it's probably my favorite song ever.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
