Notice me
Take my hand
Why are we
Strangers when
Our love is strong
Why carry on without me?

Everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby
And everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, it's haunting me
I guess I need you baby

I make believe
That you are here
It's the only way
I see clear
What have I done
You seem to move on easy

And everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby
And everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, you're haunting me
I guess I need you baby

I may have made it rain
Please forgive me
My weakness caused you pain
And this song is my sorry

Ohhhh

At night I pray
That soon your face
Will fade away

And everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby
And everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, you're haunting me
I guess I need you baby

    My Interpretation

The meaning of this song is so obvious its hilarious that so many people have got it wrong! It is so obviously about Britney and Justin.

Notice me - Justin is ignoring her and focussing on moving on with his life and it upsets her Take my hand - she wants him to pay her attention again Why are we Strangers when Our love is strong - she knows they both still love eachother and wants to get back together but they're strangers now because he's too stubborn and proud to give her another chance, and won't let her back into his life Why carry on without me? - she knows he still loves her but won't admit it so she asks him 'what is the point of carrying on without me because we both know you still love me'

Everytime I try to fly I fall without my wings I feel so small - everytime she tries to move on she messes up (random las vegas marriage, kf marriage etc.) and feels like crap I guess I need you baby - she is reluctantly admitting she needs him and she made a mistake And everytime I see you in my dreams I see your face, it's haunting me I guess I need you baby -she cant stop thinking about him

I make believe That you are here It's the only way I see clear - she imagines he's there coz it makes it easier, which anyone who has gone thru a break up with someone they love can probably relate to What have I done - she admits she made a mistake with the cheatin You seem to move on easy - it hurts her that he's movin on easy, gettin successful and more famous gfs like cameron Diaz

And everytime I try to fly I fall without my wings I feel so small I guess I need you baby And everytime I see you in my dreams I see your face, you're haunting me I guess I need you baby

I may have made it rain - the rain are his tears which she caused by cheating, also doubles as a ref. to the rain in CMAR Please forgive me - she asks for his forgiveness My weakness caused you pain - her weakness refers to her cheating which hurt him And this song is my sorry - her apology

Ohhhh - she's longing and miserable

At night I pray That soon your face Will fade away - she knows he wont come back and so even though she longs for him she knows she has to forget him so she prays his face will fade from her mind

And everytime I try to fly I fall without my wings I feel so small I guess I need you baby And everytime I see you in my dreams I see your face, you're haunting me I guess I need you baby

It seems like they were in love but Britney cheated (hence why he was so bitter, because if it was his doing he wouldnt really make bitter songs like "cry me a river" and "what goes around comes around.") She cheated and he broke it off even though he still loved her, she still loved him but initially didnt care that much about the split, but after he started to move on she realised she missed him and wanted him back and loved him, but it's too late because even if he still loved her, he was too proud to give her another chance because she hurt him so much; she knows she messed it up and this song was her apology to cry me a river, and he replied to this with "what goes around comes around."

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
