This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.

I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

i love this song. i was one of the few fortunate enough to hear it live at TSL's apparently one time only acoustic set at Skate and Surf 03' in Asbury Park, NJ. i don't know why they said that was the only time they'd ever play an acoustic set because it was amazing. i had a rough night the night before with my now ex-gf so it was especially cool to hear them play this song. the meaning of the song is pretty straight forward, its just cool how it's written i think.
This is my absolute favorite TSL song..I love it to death. There was a time when I couldn't go a day without listening to this song at least twice. I just love it. It's so...I don't know what it is but it's fantastic. Something about the line, "Do you miss her so bad it hurts?" gets to me. It's such a simple line but it just seems to pack so much emotion. Can't wait for Warped tour. Can't. Wait.

To me this song is about being on tour and going to a small club, meeting a girl that "sweeps you off your feet", having to leave her behind and the other band guys are trying to console you with words like, "at least you lived to talk about it." this song totally goes right up my alley because I meet girls for one night and have an amazing connection and find myself having to part and even though I know I will never see her again, I cant stop thinking about her. Its a shitty feeling and thats why this song is so kickass
i had that girl because she did sweep me off my feet and didnt want to leave with out her but it was meant to be to brake up and i am glad that at least i live to talk about it and that it made me feel in love and it still hurts so bad that it hurts that im not with her ne more and i just want her back. hopefully i can and everything will be back to the way they were 3 months and counting ago.
