The BUG Lyrics
One step forward and it's back to go
You're standing on the throttle
You're standing on the brakes
In the groove 'til you make a mistake
Sometimes you're the bug
Sometimes it all comes together baby
Sometimes you're a fool in love
Sometimes you're the louisville slugger
Sometimes you're the ball
Sometimes it all comes together baby
Sometimes you're going lose it all
Because you're gonna know lonely
And you're gonna know bad
When you're rippin' and a ridin'
And you're coming on strong
You start slippin' and slidin'
And it all goes wrong because
Sometimes you're the bug
Sometimes it all comes together baby
Sometimes you're a fool in love
Sometimes you're the louisville slugger baby
Sometimes you're the ball
Sometimes it all comes together baby
Sometimes you're going lose it all
One day you got none
One day you're a diamond
And then you're a stone
Everything can change
In the blink of an eye
So let the good times roll
Before we say goodbye, because
Sometimes you're the bug
Sometimes it all comes together baby
Sometimes you're a fool in love
Sometimes you're the louisville slugger baby
Sometimes you're the ball
Sometimes it all comes together baby
Sometimes you're going lose it all
:) This is a great song! I think it gets overlooked. Mary Chapin Carpenter(or as George Strait called her "Mary Chapman Carpenter" that pissed her off so bad she put it in a song when she opned for him back in the '90's). It wasn't as good as Mark Knopfler though.
I think this is probably my favourite song by Mark Knopfler and I've spent many happy hours listening to this song. What I currently make of it is quite confusing as I'm not entirely sure what the song means to me but I'm going to give it a go. I'm also uninfluenced by others as this song has never had anything written about it :P
I think it's about how life changes and sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad but you should always enjoy the good times "before we say good bye" and "it all goes wrong". It also refers to how relationships change and even who your relationship is with changes. If you've seen the music video to this song then you'll have a deeper understanding of what Mark meant when he wrote this song (you can find the song on any popular video viewing sites).
"Everything can change In the blink of an eye"
This is another example of how things can change very quickly without you really noticing until you step back and look at it.
Really like this one. About the ups and downs of life. "standing on the throttle" - when life seems great, everything's going well and you just don't want to stop "standing on the brakes" - when life seems like it's crashing "in the groove til you make a mistake" - that's sure what it feels like when you hit the bumps in life.
Also really love the sound of this one, a little of their classic sound mixed with the newer influences. Really good song for those long trips. Kind of goes back to the allegory of life as a drive/trip.
