There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Trouble Breathing

While the obvious connections with suicide or alcoholism could be drawn easily, more subtly this song could be about someone who views the world through a negative lens constantly and how as much as the writer tries to show the beauty in the world, this person refuses to see it. It's one or another between the rope and the bottle. There is no good option for this person. They can't see it. Skiba sings it in a kind of exasperated way like He's tired of hearing this negative view constantly and just allowing that person to continue feeling the way they feel knowing he can't do anything about it. You can hear it when he says maybe you're a vampire.

Another Love

I think the meaning is pretty clear. This person got really burned in a previous relationship, and because of this is unable to love and show care in his present one, even though he so badly wants to. It's lovely song, and very sad. You can really feel how defeated and frustrated he is with himself.

Sunglasses at Night

In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.
There are some songs, stories, movies, etc I would LOVE to write songs about. Books, usually... Like 1984 and Earth Abides and The Stars My Destination.
These guys took one of my most favorite books, Breakfast Of Champions, and built this all around one of the main characters.... didn't get him perfectly, I don't think, because he was pretty complex. But they got this aspect of what happened to him down very well.
Kilgore Trout is not just a character in Breakfast of Champions, he is a recurring character in many novels by my favorite author, Kurt Vonnegut. So you can imagine how pleased I was to hear that Appleseed Cast did this song. I really see these lyrics, as few of them as there are, to explain the story of a man who has worked all his life trying to write so that people may appreciate him, and he has gotten no appreciation. His character changes alot from book to book, but that is the one constant: that he is a science fiction writer that nobody gives a crap about. Noone, that is, until the Midland City Arts festival invites him as a guest speaker, but that's another story entitled Breakfast of Champions.
I love this song.
good ole vonny writes some fun books and stuff. but never should he be anyone's favorite author.
How can you say so much with 17 words
thrilling. breathtaking i knew the moment i saw you.
yeah. kilgore trout is also mentioned in slaughterhouse five
I hate to hate on Handsunderwater but Kurt Vonnegut was considered by many to be the greatest American writer alive after the death of Joseph Heller. So there is no problem with having Kurt Vonnegut as your favorite author. Kilgore Trout in everybook Vonengut talks about usually is talked about in a very obscure way. He has written over 100 novels and countless short-stories. His stories usually show up in Pornography Magazines or his books are only available in Sleezy backwater shops. This song is about someone wanting to be remembered for being great and is begging someone to help him be remembered. Even after doing so much and writing so many books no one knows who he is. I think Kilgore Trout is a direct reference to Kurt Vonnegut. Kurt Vonnegut has written many great books but many people do not know any of them besides Slaughter House Five and possibly Breakfast of Champions. Kilgore Trout appears in
God Bless you Mr. Rose Water Slaughter house five Sirens of Titan Breakfast of Champions Timequake Hocus Pocus Jailbird Galapagos
