In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Inside anger and thoughtfelt voices,
I'm about to get up and pack.
Taking orders and getting no choices,
Soon I'm leaving and never comin' back,
Getting yelled at, that same old tone,
Wanna just leave and be alone.
Getting yelled at, that same old tone,
Wanna just leave and be alone.
Frustrated, sick of it all,
Forever wounded,
Don't wanna take the fall,
Never wanting to step in the way,
For fear of,
The next day.
Getting yelled at, that same old tone,
Wanna just leave and be alone.
Getting yelled at, that same old tone,
Wanna just leave and be alone.
Can't take this anymore,
Frustration oozing out the pores,
Hoarse voices,
Constant losses.
Screw authority and all it's kind,
I think I'm goin' out of my mind.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
