When the people of the country have forgotten how to disagree
And the national economy is said to be OK
And the wages that you get will help you to forget
Will you keep your ideologies or throw them all away?

When the system has you beaten
Even now you haven't eaten
'cause you can't afford to eat or drink to keep your brain alive
You blame the system for the weather but carry on as ever
You go to work at half past eight and come back home at five

You can go blue in the face talking about the human race
How they got to outer space but it never stopped the wars
And how the whole of this humanity is based on greed and vanity
The ones who make decisions are the ones who make the laws

But you're still in this society
So what's your main priority
Remain in the majority who never really cared?
Or cultivate the hate to annihilate the state
Are you prepared to die for your beliefs or just to dye your hair?

The anarchist, the nihilist but can you prove that you exist
To apopulation who insist you're just a bunch of fakes
You cannot change the system until you change your own restrictions
Communication and conviction - got to kick until it breaks

wow nobody commented? its about how people think they are "punk" but the only thing they ever do is dye their hair and say they are hard core, never taking any real action for their convictions

this song kicks ass. as for being punk, todays of "punk" is defined by how many green day pins you can fit on your my chemical romance book bag.

But of course it's not just about that. It's telling you to actually take action rather than just talking about problems or whatnot.

It is talking about how punk is going out there, making a stand, useing your voice, not just wearing a greenday Tshirt (and greenday is NOT punk by the way!)

I agree with all of you, but no one seemed to add that its mocking us in a way, as a sort of motivation "Are you prepared to die for your beliefs, of just to dye your hair?" Its poking at us, making us want to get out and do something. Jello, don't make statements like that. Punk is what you make it, I don't care if they aren't your government hating punk rawkers, if they can get someone to get out and do something to better the world, then who are you to say they aren't? Think before you type

Wow, this song is much deeper than most of you seem to give it credit, I mean you have taken one or two lines that may or may not be about the punk lifestyle and made those the whole song...

Anyway, the song is about describing the conflict a socially and politically aware person goes through when everything and everyone around them is working against them. Most of the song describes all the temptations someone has, to just assimilate and be done with it. The song basically states this in the first sentence:

"when the people of the country have forgotten how to disagree and the national economy is said to be o.k. and the wages that you get will help you to forget will you keep your ideologies or throw them all away?"

    They further restate this with:

"so what's your main priority? remain in the majority who never really cared?"

The song also makes it clear that you shouldn't simply put yourself on a pedestal, although you should consider the fact that things are not the way you want them to be. With this information you should further do something about it, regardless of whether you belong to a tired ass musical subculture or not.

The main idea is to stick to your guns, not to be tamed, that sort of thing.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
