Wide open, Empty coffin
Giving up is jumping in
Straight foward, Sun on the dashboard
This dead-end town I'll leave behind
Wide open, Miles of pavement
Away from useless lives and failure
I've seen these lights
For the last time
How does it feel when I laugh in your face?

When I give you the finger
You're already dead to me
And you really think you matter
That's the story of the year

2000 miles away from
These stormy skies
To salty air
Knee deep in midwest quicksand
There's no reason to say good bye

When I give you the finger
You're already dead to me
And you really think you matter
That's the story of the year

Now or never
It's the story of the year
There's no way I'll believe in second chances

Don't look back
Don't hesitate
Your futures' the chances you take
Don't live your life
Afraid of growing old with regret in the end

I think this song is about hating where he grew up and the people in it, they sit around and waste their lives.they do nothing. they dont try to make a difference. and when he tried people talked about him but now since hes getting out & is making a difference hes laughing at them. i think that explains the 1st verse. he describes where he came from :These stormy skies To salty air Knee deep in midwest quicksand ----sad lonley hard to get out

so when he left he ddint bother looking back , saying goodbye, he just wanted to leave. so i think its about him leaving them and

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
