Well I've been bleeding well from this old wound,
Cleaning it with salt so it will still feel new.
Sometimes eyes turn black,
And sometimes scars are tracks.
But everytime you're gone i wish that you'd come back.

And everyone watched me waste myself,
Everyone cheered at last.
All of them found it comforting,
It's better it's me..than them.

I think I'm doing well from what they say,
They've taken both my belt and shoelaces away.
Well I believe in luck,
I think I do.
Well I believe for sure
If ever I saw you.

I've been fanning flames from these old coals,
Feeding them with tender,
And hoping they will grow.
And I've been savoring
What I can't hold,
A blind belief in goodness
That doesn't seem to show.

I've been bleeding well,
From this old wound.
Cleaning it with salt,
So it will still feel new..

CatSneezer, if you dont want to listen to chris's new stuff, then pull out your old swiss army romance cd, pop it in your player, and play it as loud as you want so you cant hear the saints and sailors video being played on MTV 2 because of people who request him to be played. You dont have to tell everybody that you dont like it, because nobody cares if you the way he added drums to sharp hint of new tears. the lyrics are the same and so is the emotion in it, theres just a bass playing and drums ticking in the background. so as for now, do like you said you could and just sit and listen to the old sharp hint of new tears in your room...and make sure you leave the tv off. -13HourBoy

I'm so sick of people saying that whoever has become popular and has gone on MTV is automatically not as "deep" or is going to be a "sell out". Who gives if other people than you like him. He's songs are stil the shit, and he's the most amazing songwriter out there. Hoorah that someone with emotion and meaning is finally getting some recognition instead of Britney Spears' songs about Boys and Girls. Like what you like, but don't try too hard to be different.

I love this song. The first time I heard it I cried... I'm going to venture that this song is about losing someone. And feeling completely hopeless without them. And the wound represents their lasting impression... his reminder of whoever's left. As if that's all he has left of that person... and he's holding on to it by making it "feel new". I'm confused about the lines dealing with "everyone" and how they "cheered".

The whispery voice he uses while singing this song makes it even more tragic...

To me...this song is about loving someone, but they dont love you back and its this constant up and down situation...like when he says "I’ve been bleeding well, From this old wound, Cleaning it with salt, So it will still feel new*...he knows that the person he loves hurt him, and even though he knows they will continue to hurt him, he still loves them. And everyone thinks hes crazy for still going back....thats what I got, b/c thats the situation I'm in right now. I love him, one second he loves me and the next he doesnt...and even tho I know I'll get hurt again, and everyone else knows it too...I still cant help but run back for more.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Magical

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
