"Hello and Goodbye"

so long my friend, don't say goodbye
just give me one last kiss beneath this glowing sky.
we'll go walking through the park
and hang out in the rain.
tell a joke and watch me smile
as we drink away the day.

and know the next time that you
make a wish upon a star
I'll be wishing on the same one that you do
and every night I'm all alone
in some burn out highway town
I'll be thinking of the day that I met you.

hello again, it's been to long.
what happened to our love
since the last time I was gone?

I detach myself again
and lose something everytime.
the solutions in the problem
temporarily alright.

and know the next time that you
make a wish upon a star
that sometimes it might actually come true.
our conversation can't consist of hello and goodbye
and the silence between saying I love you.
and sometimes I wonder 'bout that too.

this song is so beautiful. i think its about how he fell in love with his best friend. and she fell in love with him. and they were happy and together and she broke it off. and they lost not only their romance, but their friendship. and he's sad. but that's just my interpretation. these lyrics are so perfect though.

This song is so sad, it makes me cry every time I hear it. It reminds me how horrible it is to love someone when they don't love you back, and the nostalgia of thinking back to all the good times you used to have.

This song never loses it's touch. The first time I heard this song was months before "End of Forever" was released. I was so keeeeen on this new album that I managed to download every song on the album, however, I swore to myself that I wouldn't listen to the songs until I had bought the album. Soo many people offered to make the album for me but I declined. It's not the same effect as when you buy it, opposed to when it's burned. I felt as if the band needed me! haha okay, I'm a corndawg... =) This song is amazing..ahhh...it's everything...awww...I (heart) Kris A&F!! =)

this song means everything to me. I fell in love with my best friend and finally told him the night before he left for college, although I now know he feels the same and that he is everything I ever need, our relationships now consist of Hellos and Goodbyes. I love this song.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
