"Magic's In The Makup" as written by and Thomas Dumont Gwen Stefani....
Can you tell I'm
Faking it?
But I want to be myself
A counterfeit disposition
Can't be good for my health
So many different faces
Depending on the different phases
My personality changes
I'm a chameleon
There's more then one dimension
I can fool you and attract attention
Camouflage my nature
Let me demonstrate...

Makeup's all off
Who am I?
Magic's in the makeup
Who am I?

If you bore me
Then I'm comfortable
If you interest me I'm scared
My attraction paralyzes me
No courage to show my true colors that exist
But I want to be the real thing
But if you catch my eye can't be authentic
The ones I loath are the one's that know me the best

My makeup's all off
Who am I?
The magic's in the makeup
Who am I?

The makeup's all
Who am I?
If the magic's in the make up
Then who am I?
Magic's in the makeup
But I want to be the real thing
But the magic's in the makeup
And I want to be the real thing

My makeup's all
Who am I?

General CommentThis song means so much to me. Imagine Gwen sitting down after a show and taking off all of her makeup, asking herself if the fans love her or the image she projects. Truly moving.

General CommentThis song is aobut putting on a front.. and wondering is this really me? Would people like me if I didn't wear this.. would guys like me if I decided not to wear mascara today? Just simple things like that you know? It sucks wondering who you really are... and having no clue about the real you.

General CommentIt may not even be about make-up literally, but more about the 'face' people tend to put on daily to impress others. Once all is said and done, they have to wonder if people like them for what they appear to be or for what they are. I'm an actress, so the song makes a lot of sense to me.

General CommentTo me, the song is about one of those shallow girly girls. This one, however, finds the people whom she hangs out with to be bland ("The ones I loath are the one's that know me the best"). On the inside, she has a strange personality and she'd rather be thought of as a normal, popular girl ("There's more then one dimension", "Can you tell I'm faking it?", "Camouflage my nature", "No courage to show my true colors that exist"). If she meets anyone she truly wants to know, her hidden personality might show ("If you bore me then I'm comfortable
If you interest me I'm scared"). Eventually, she wants to face her fears and show everyone who she really is ("But the magic's in the makeup
And I want to be the real thing

    My makeup's all off
    Who am I?"

My OpinionI think this song can have different meanings to everyone, obviously. It's a song plenty of girls and women could identify with in their own way. To me, it seems like it's talking about putting up some sort of security wall through our make-up; it makes us feel safe and accepted. When it all comes off, we can't help but wonder who we really are and if we really express our true selves. Make-up can be a very important thing for a girl but sometimes it can really make us feel trapped and like we're not showing who we really are inside.

General Commentya'll have said just about everything that i was gonna. i actually saw the lyrics b-4 i ever heard the song, and its one of the few songs that means something. the lyrics are perfect, and like SO MANY other no doubt songs, i think that i subconciously wrote the lyrics and used telepathy to send them to that oh-so-awesome gwenny.
