(Oh no)
(Oh no, no)

You'll never make me stay
So take your weight off of me
I know your every move
So won't you just let me be?
I've been here times before
But I was too blind to see
That you seduce every man
This time you won't seduce me

She said, "That's okay
Hey baby do as you please
I have the stuff that you want
I am the thing that you need"
She looked me deep in the eyes
She's touchin' me so to start
She says, "There's no turnin' back"
She trapped me in her heart

Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana
Let me be

Oh no
Oh no
Oh no

She likes the boys in the band
She knows when they come to town
Every musician's fan after the curtain comes down
She waits at backstage doors
For those who have prestige
Who promise fortune and fame
A life that's so carefree

She said, "That's okay
Hey baby do what you want
I'll be your night lovin' thing
I'll be the freak you can taunt
I don't care what you say
I wanna go too far
I'll be your everything
If you make me a star?

Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana

Diana
Diana
Dirty Diana
It's Diana-iana-iana, c'mon

(No, no)

She said, "I have to go home
'Cause I'm real tired you see
Now I hate sleppin' alone
Why don't you come with me?"
I said, "My baby's at home
She's probably worried tonight
I didn't call on the phone
To say that I'm alright"

Diana walked up to me
She said, "I'm all yours tonight"
At that I ran to the phone
Sayin', "Baby I'm alright"
I said, "But unlock the door
'Cause I forgot the key"
She said, "He's not coming back
Because he's sleeping with me"

Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana

C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon

C'mon (hey baby, won't you? Hey baby, won't you?)
C'mon (hey baby, won't you? Hey baby, won't you?)
C'mon (hey baby, won't you? Hey baby, won't you?)
C'mon (hey baby, won't you?)

C'mon (ow)
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon

Oh, it's definitely about Diana Ross alright. She was known to sleep around with the Motown boys to advance her career, like Berry Gordy and MJ. Hence the line 'I'll be your everything, if you make me a star". Apparently MJ's brother Marlon was also interested in her. She tried to seduce Marvin Gaye and Lionel Ritchie, but failed.

MJ was calling her out for ... uh, 'using' him the past few years, but OF COURSE he wasn't gonna tell that to the public. Hence he came out with some half-assed excuse about it being a groupie. There was one source which said that Quincy Jones told MJ to tone down the lyrics because he knew that MJ was being too obvious about it being about Diana Ross. It also wasn't coincidence that Diana and MJ had a strained relationship after the song came out. They eventually made up years later, but yeah.

With decades of stardom and countless hit songs, Michael Jackson certainly had his fair share of fans. His Dirty Diana song from the album Bad, hit the charts and became yet another favorite among his fans, and while some of his songs had hidden meanings and questionable reasoning, his lyrics to Dirty Diana were relatively explicit and left little room for interpretation.

Michael said in an interview that Diana was a groupie who appeared to be dedicated to Michael himself, but in reality was seducing a number of different band members. This song is about Michael coming to the reality that Diana was not the girl he had originally thought she was, and he was making it known that others should be aware of her ways.

There is some speculation regarding whether or not this was a true story or just another lyrical wonder of the King of Pop. Due to his notoriety and reputation, it is unlikely that he would use the name of the actual person who did this, but more likely he used a well-known name that could be easily disguised. Some even go so far as to speculate that he was referring to Diana Ross or Princess Diana, but his lips remained sealed, though he hinted that the song was not in reference to the princess.

Songs about sleazy groupies always make for a good listen in my own opinion. And the video was just fun!

Even though I've known this song for years, it still surprises me, after I haven't heard it for a while. IMO it’s one of Michael’s most powerful songs. It is emotional, dramatic and has so many levels in it. At times it’s almost like it’s an intercourse. In Michael there is sweet misery and at the same time his soul is tortured. He sings it with such a pain and fragility. There’s even regret detectable in his voice, which leads to desperation by the end. You can actually feel just how sorry he is, that he meet Dirty Diana, because she's ruining his life. But she’s like a drug and he can’t escape, nor quit her. Man, Michael… I know how you feel, dude…

This song was NOT about Princess Di! Rather it says something about his relationship w/ Diana Ross-- she was very seductive and mature and he was totally infatuated w/ her for many, many years(read his autobiography). For whatever reason they couldn't work it out (age, family, religion, ?) he was totally heartbroken when she married someone else. I think he wrote this after/during that phase of his life-- he put his hurt and desire for her into this song. It's what he fantasized her doing or being...

I freakin' love this song, don't think i've clapped my beady eyes on the video. Probably have done in past years on MTV but i'm not too sure. I'm a girl, and a friend of mine can be such a groupie to any hot 'rocker' available, kida reminds me of her and the times i've had guys lower themselves just to get what they want from me. x.x; I remember the time when girls used to faint at the name Michael Jackson, I wasnt one of them cuz I respected his music. <3

    Song Meaning

In a TV interview, the producer of this song Quincy Jones was asked by Mary J Blige who was MJ talking about in Dirty Diana, and Quincy said: "I thought it was about Diana Ross, like everyone else."

Quincy himself was aware that everyone thought it was about her and he didn't object to this assumption, so I'm guessing that it's true.

so i think that he is talking about diana ross. he was in love with her years ago but then she left him got married and ultimately broke his heart. in the song it describes him meeting diana not for the first time and he sees that she seduces every rich man or celeb she meets and will do anything to become famous. so to be brief diana is a groupie that will do anything to be famous and she ' waits at back stage doors for those who have prestige, who promise fortune and fame a life thats so care free.' so she sleeps with celebs so that she will become famous one of mj best songs thoigh

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
