Paranoid Eyes Lyrics

Button your lip don't let the shield slip
take a fresh grip on your bullet proof mask
and if they try to break down your disguise with their questions
you can hide hide hide
behind paranoid eyes

You put on your brave face and slip over the road for a jar
fixing your grin as you casually lean on the bar
laughing too loud at the rest of the world
with the boys in the crowd
you hide hide hide
behind petrified eyes

you believed in their stories of fame fortune and glory
now you're lost in a haze of alchohol soft middle age
the pie in the sky turned out to be miles too high
and you hide hide hide
behind brown and mild eyes

I don't know why, but this has always been one of my favorite songs. It reminds me of a better time long ago when things better. The mood of this song engulfs the listener and transports him to some ethereal plane where time stops.

Either that or I just want to kill myself because it is so sad.

Would someone tell me why this album is rated as Pink Floyd's worst album?

I love this song! Best song on The Final Cut along with Two Suns In The Sunset!

Man, my whole life is based in this song. It fits exactly the way you must behave if you want to face the real world and stop dreaming. Hey, Stairway to heaven. Many PF fans, like me, keep asking the same thing. If you ask me, the worst PF album is The Division Bell. But, you know outside it is full of people who call themselves "fans" after listening to DSOM or The Wall...

to both of you i don't know why this is rated the worst PF album it is actually my favorite, and for sure the worst are any of the albums without roger waters like the division bell, this song to me explains feelings towards someone running away from who they really are kindof like the wall, building a wall, or even just faceing who they really are or were they are from great song.

thank you. this is the best floyd album no doubt. i dont know why people dislike this one so much. its absolutely incredible.

This song is about someone coming back from the war, which is the whole basis of the album. And all the horrors you have seen and done in war. That when you finally come home you have to try to forget about what has happened and "cover" so to speak the war scars and be like everyone else at the bar. Knowing that underneath your mask, you are years older then you are. By the way I love this album.

This album is good but it is basically the era in which waters controled the band and everything that went on with it. After Animals and The Wall this album was released, and many started to believe that waters was telling people what to believe and becoming a tyrant in the band because of his torn up past he can not and will not ever get over. And I wouldn't say there is a worst album but as far as meaning goes, this album just feels a lot more opinion related (water's opinions). As for the Division Bell... look for the Publius Enigma and see how far the rabbit hole goes.

id rather have a waters controlled band than what happened to floyd after he left. this was an incredible album. one of the greatest rock albums of all time as far as im concerned. i would give anything to have something of this level come out these days.

@hello again I agree. We all have issues. Losing your father as an infant is life altering. I have to commend him for using his art to process his childhood experiences. Also, he is allowed to have his own opinions. And I'm quite sure you have your own issues. How are you living? Water's appears to be successful, healthy. I hope you are as well. But most people that have such derogatory opinions about people , especially people they don't actually know, are nor very happy with themselves or their place in the world.

Water's SHOULD have controlled the dam band! This album is amazing and Waters was very much the creative centre of the band. This album has more story and more to say than any of the others except, of course The Wall and maybe Dark Side. No other band has made such an excellent expression of dismay and disgust at the folly of politicians and modern day life.

I'm pretty sure the song is about how he trys to disguise the fact that he suffers from paranoia. He dons his disguise and puts up his defences and goes out to the pub and pretends to be happy and normal, hiding from everyone the fact that he is actually petrified and paranoid. The song sounds happy at first, but by the end it is clear that the happy atmosphere is fake and represents the act he puts on while he is out.

This is not Pink Floyds worst album, but I see their point though... for people that look at music in an acadamical way, this album isn't very special, there are a lot of spaces on the album where you just hear roger waters 'talking'. I think that's a somewhat swallow perspective though. I think the lyrics and the atmosphere of an album are more important. In that vision, this album isn't bad at all

Now that I actually listened to it, it's actually pretty good.
