Believe Lyrics

close your eyes
until the sunlight dies
in your head a thousand stars
through the darkness you can see love light
and if they steal your light
your heart is still in mine

i want to believe in you and i heard you
your song, you sing, a truth is no other
i want to believe in you, dear

of someday...

there's a life i hide
but i try to disguise
and i could take you a million miles away

i want to believe in you and i heard you
your song, you sing, a truth is no other
i want to believe in you, dear

on sunday i made amends
of all my mistakes
may godspeed be with you

and i...
i want to believe in you and i heard you
your song, you sing, a truth is no other
i want to believe in you and i heard you
your song, you sing, a truth is no other
i want to believe in you and i heard you
your song, you sing, a truth, a lover
i want to believe in you and i heard you
your song, you sing, a truth, is no other
i want to believe in you, dear
of someday...

on sunday i make amends
for all my mistakes
may godspeed be with you

I think this song is sung by someone who hasn't met "the one" yet and wants to believe that that person is out there somewhere. So he sings this love song to someone he doesn't even know but feels in his heart that they will find each other... someday...

"there's a life i hide but i try to disguise" reminds me of a gay person trying to hide their sexuality.

i think its just about a man who has not been able to fully love this woman. he could take her a million miles away but for some reason is not that person because of the life he hides.

I listened to this song on repeat and I cried myself to sleep. What I got from it is when he says "close your eyes until the sunlight dies in your head a thousand stars through the darkness you can see a light" it's metaphorically speaking when you close your eyes and you are wishing or praying to get of a dark slump that someone may have caused you, you see or feel a light of hope in the darkness praying that there's still hope.

The part where he sings "i want to believe in you and i heard you your song, you sing, a truth is no other i want to believe in you, dear on Sunday" Well to me it means he wants to believe what they are saying specifically on Sunday when we usually show up to church and are forgiving we tend to be more open and loving, therefore he feels he should believe them they are speaking truth because hey it's Sunday a holy day.

"there's a life i hide but i try to disguise and i could take you a million miles away" this to me means he isn't living an authentic life. His life isn't genuine but if he were to be raw and real it can take you out of this world meaning he hasn't showed you everything he is capable of.

"on sunday i made amends of all my mistakes may godspeed be with you" To me this means he might of went to church or prayed because it's a Sabbath day and he asked God for forgiveness for all his mistakes and is asking God to help them with what that person was asking or saying to be true "may Godspeed be with you."

"and if they steal your light your heart is still in mine" I think this means if what the other person is saying isn't true like they continue to lie, their heart at least is still theirs because obviously that person loves them.

i love the SPs and this is an underrated track...the music around "may godspeed be with you" is really moving. Its all about hope which is a bit unusual for them, but theyve done it so well maybe they should have done some more?

I just have to say this: Corgan is sooooo talented. This song is soo well written, very very moving. Although I see the hope theme in it, there's also an underlying feling of regret, maybe for not being able to give a loved one the attention they deserved. Beautiful song.

um, Corgan didn't actually write this one. James Iha did. it's still a great song though. anyways, that's what i think...

It's a beautiful moving song.... when i read joeprog comment I would say that the song is by James Iha... The same way as Take Me Down... Another great song... :)

James Iha proves he's a great songwriter yet again with this song.

To me the line "there's a life i hide but try to disguise" is about not being who you really are for the person you're after, but being what you think they'd want instead. It's like he's coming to a realization that it won't work especially in the part where he sings... "I want to believe in you and I heard you your song you sing a truth is no other I want to believe in you, dear... of someday on sunday i make amends for all my mistakes may godspeed be with you"

down to the "godspeed be with you" part it sort of sounds like he's bidding his love farewell.

but all of this is just my humble opinion. Beautiful song.

I agree with Jewelly Bug. By the line "theres a life i hide..." sounds like he is in pain but he is trying to believe that he will soon meet that someone and it will go away.
