What's This Life For Lyrics
If there's any way, because the answer lies in you
Their laid to rest, before they've know just what to do
Their souls are lost, because they could never find
What's this life for
I see your soul it's kind of gray
You see my heart, you look away
You see my wrist, I know your pain
I know your purpose on your plane
Don't say a last prayer, because you could never find
What's this life for
But they ain't here anymore
Don't have to settle no goddamned score
Because we all live under the reign of one king
Scott and Mark wrote this song about a friend who commited suicide. It just states that life is hard.."Hurray for a child that makes it through "
I interpreted the first verse to be about abortion. "Hurra for a child that makes it though. They're laid to rest before they know just what to do."

I heard that comment on the Q and A board at creed.com, and i must not have mentioned it in my post, but I am aware on why he wrote it this way. I know that it is similar to how Jesus acted while he was on the cross asking his father why he did not save him while they nailed him to the cross. Mark Tremonti and Scott Stapp were probably feeling a little bit of the same thing after hearing that their friend had commited suicide, and asking why God did not save him from himself.
Calm down, i didnt mean to piss you off... I am not comparing them to Jesus and if you would have made sense of my post, i meant that they might have felt similar... not that they are similar... the question "why have you forsaken me?" might play into it a little bit.. So the fact that you got so pissed at one little misconception amazes me. And by calling them a sell out band, do you really think that they are? It is quite obvious that they aren't... your sell out bands would be out there blaring music that everyone likes.. If creed had people writing their music, and playing their music and turning their music into the shallow shit factory that the media is today, then they would be a sell out.. But i am sure that they aren't. How else could this music have so many fans that like them for their music. The might be out to make a few bucks, but that doesn't mean they are a sell out.
I agree with myownprison333. It is obvious that these songs come from the soul. The sound they make and the lyrics aren't just something that money guzzling writers just think up. There was alot of effort put into this whole album, that is proof alone that they are not "sell-outs".
this song is good. but he could leave out G.D. That's ridiculous. But awesome song.
Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti said during an interview that the song was written after the suicide of a close friend. The song is about youth who are raised without knowing their purpose, being depressed about tough incidents in their life and having no world view to ground themselves. Without the ground, they fall deeper and deeper into depression, eventually becoming suicidal.
"Hurray for a child that makes it through If there's any way, because the answer lies in you. They're laid to rest, before they've known just what to do Their souls are lost, because they could never find what's this life for."
The lyrics indicate dissatisfaction with the seeming injustice of the situation. He's saying that those kids that make it through adolescence without depression are able to because they've been taught by their parents/teachers that they were created with purpose and life is not meaningless, but those that aren't sometimes commit suicide.
"I see your soul it's kind of gray You see my heart, you look away You see my wrist, I know your pain I know your purpose on your plane"
Scott seems to indicate he identifies with the depression and suicidal thoughts of some youth because he has attempted suicide before also (at least metaphorically). But that he found his purpose, and he knows youth who might be listening also have a purpose.
Knowing from other interviews and from lyrics in other songs, Creed has a Christian world view, and it seems the lyrics:
"But they ain't here anymore Don't have to settle no goddamned score Because we all live under the reign of one king"
indicate that no matter how mad he may be at the loss, and how he may blame his deceased friend's parents/guardians for not teaching him that he has worth and was created with a purpose, there is no sense in seeking retribution, because God is in control and all things work for good and according to God's will, even though we may not understand it.
This is my favorite song. Although the more christian fans of creed didnt like this song at first because of him including "God damn" but it has a powerful meaning. If you like this song, download the acoustic version; It is a million times more powerful
anakalia ur right again but myownprison scott made comment about "God Damn" and he said that God knew wut he was talking about and were he was coming from with saying those words cuz he was pissed that his friend commited suiside and he was pissed at God and shit
Great song!
This is definitely my favorite Creed song. I'm such a Tremonti fan and he does such a good introduction into the song. I'm gonna marry him someday :)
