I am the sledgehammer messiah, waiting for sins to be born
and if you stop for a moment you can hear the machines are playing your song
there's nowhere to speak
I'm gaining you're falling into me
tell me you piece of shi, how does it feel
to be down here with Me?
Living, living, dreaming dreaming
drowning

Chorus:
Chainheart Machine
By cosmic retribution I've been sent
Cause I'll rise, You'll fall
Roll the dice!
My call

Tick tock, time to die
No use reaching as time goes by selfabsorbed egotistic....fuck!
I'm reigning your life!

Chorus:
Chainheart Machine
By cosmic retribution I've been sent
Cause I'll rise, You'll fall
Roll the dice!

Preaching for the Sun
they say there is a sun
so i'm preaching for the sun
they say there...is a sun

My body is chained to the ground where I walk
they stalk they hunt my every thought with
Execution, Evolution, Disillusion Pre-conclusion
Why is it me?

Chorus: Chainheart Machine
You're suffering will be legendary, even in hell!
Cause i'll rise, you'll fall
Roll the dice!

My call!(2x)

I think this is something about a machine that takes lives and souls. I can't really put my finger on a deeper meaning. Either way, it's a great song.

Sounds to me like an industrialized Hell, whereas the song portrays Satan as taking the souls of sinners in order to rise from the abyss God has cast him into for eternity.

Most of you will think but i'm crazy, but here's my take on it:

The Narrator is the devil himself, and he says that he does not really need us, he will just screw us over.

I get your point, especially because of the following lyrics: "Cause I'll rise, You'll fall Roll the dice! My call

Tick tock, time to die No use reaching as time goes by selfabsorbed egotistic....fuck! I'm reigning your life!" and "You're suffering will be legendary, even in hell!"

Nevertheless awesome song, one of my favorites from them =)

This song is about how the evil that people do will find them out:

"I am the sledgehammer messiah, waiting for sins to be born and if you stop for a moment you can hear the machines are playing your song" ~indicating that there is always a tally on the evil actions we perform, and there is an entity out there that will call us on it

"By cosmic retribution I've been sent Cause I'll rise, You'll fall Roll the dice! My call" ~Again, the chorus shows that the more we commit, the more likely we are to be called on the actions we perform

Of course the song might not be about a specific entity at all but rather the way the universe responds to our existance

The rest of the album follows a concept, likely about a murderer of some kind. That's actually the last song in the album, notice how it fits perfectly after the post-Room 99 sounds. The guy died and devil came to claim his soul and such.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
