"I see then nightshade grow" he spoke
And southern hounds awoke at dawn
Sought for the ever-liquid of our craving
Caught by the all embracing nightly sun
Admass - I laugh at your feeble lies - trash

Hatred in my eyes and in my blood
A scream across the fields - the rivers weep
A vanquished lord upon an oaken throne
Grief inside my flame - grasp at my existence
The seal of dawn is broken - fury

Wildfire

A windswept thought
Out in the perimeter where laughs are
No longer heard, screams no longer seen
And life is always lost
Gaze into the skies for they are blind
Blinded by the nightshade of our lust
Grinded to dust
The wolves are here

The beast of the savage lands
They drink my blood
They feast upon my remains
The tears in their eyes betray

Wildfire

based on book or rpg... typical to IF? Maybe on the first album. Personally, I think it's about the media.

"Sought for the ever-liquid of our craving Caught by the all embracing nighly sun"

The ever-liquid is obviously greed. The all embracing nightly sun... could mean that it shines light on things you would prefered to stay dark, exposing secrets and such.

    "Wildfire"

    The news spreads like wildfire.

"The tears in their eyes betray" The media doesn't really care, they (the beast) just wants their story.

this is one of my favorite songs In flames ever did. the guitars are just so kick ass! i hope they remake this song one day like they did with behind space, which is also one of my favorites. after listening to this song you think, are they softening up? personally i don't think so. i think they are forming their sound. just as most bands do. it takes time and i think its great how they are actually singing in their songs and becomming more melodic with the vocals. i love the screaming and shit in this song but it can get tiring after a while. plus a singer can't sing like this forever it ruins their voice...

Kickass song, definetely the best song from Lunar Strain. Well at least in my opinion.

The lyrics seem like they're based on a book or an RPG or a computer game or something, very typical IF writing. What's happenin in the song is: The evil Nightshade is fucking with everybody, the hounds are drinkin everybody's blood, and the apocalypse is probably about to start as well. the sky seems to be burning.

The lyrics seem to describe a king after being dethroned, and how his life is thrust into chaos.

Ddadutta, i laughed alot with your 1st comment. especially.."What's happenin in the song is: The evil Nightshade is fucking with everybody, the hounds are drinkin everybody's blood.." gave me an icon of ..comic chaos.."is fucking with everybody.." hahaha..good one indeed. well i totally agree with Varulf..the song Is about the media..and the symbols are well illustrated by you sir. i couldn't explain better. Quite frankly i completely agree. by the way..some times bands, and especially in flames..use names and characters in their songs ; that doesn't necessarily mean that they 've been influenced by something, a source or something..nonetheless, it is possible. in this case i wouldn't say it is like this and thus that is why i agree with Varulf about the whole media concept. cheers

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
