Tonight will be
The night that we
Begin to ease
The plugs out of the dam.
And we will stand
Knee deep in the flow,
The undertow
Will grab our heels and won't let go.
And while we hold,
Our legs quivering,
The water rises now
To our teeth
When we just let go
And sail belly up to the clouds,
The rocks scraping our backs.
To breath in the air will be
The only thing that we have
And all the wasted nights
And empty moments
In our lives flushed away
As we sway with the rhythm
Of the waves bobbing us up.
Crests fall to troughs we feel our gills open up.

And sail belly up to the clouds,
The rocks scraping our backs.
To breath in the air will be
The only thing that we have
And if the hook sets in
The bottom of our lungs,
We'll rip it out and lick the blood off with our tongues.

The despair can ravage you
If you turn your head around to look down the path
That's led you here,
Because what can you change?
You're a vessel now
Floating down the waterways.
You can take your rudder
And aim your ship,
Just don't bother with the things left in your wake.
Just sail belly up to the clouds,
The rocks scraping your back.
To breathe in the air will be
The only thing that you have
And your love will be warm nights
With pockets of moonlight
Spotlighting you as you drift,
The actor in this play.
And you walk across the stage,
Take a bow, hear the applause,
And as the curtain falls,
Just know you did it all
The best that you knew how
And you can hear them cheering now.
So let a smile out and show your teeth
Because you know you lived it well.

I love the beautiful imagery and metaphors in this song. To me the song is about stopping our obsession with having control over everything, going with the flow of life, confronting issues head on, and letting go of the past.

Tonight will be The night that we Begin to ease The plugs out of the dam

I think this is a metaphor for having lots of pent up emotion and suppressed issues that have been ignored, but now it’s time to address them and let them all flow out.

And we will stand Knee deep in the flow The undertow Grabs our heels and won’t let go.

The issues are slowly coming out as we stand right in them to confront them. Great imagery as I can almost feel the current of the water flowing across my heels.

And while we hold Our legs quivering The water rises now To our teeth as we just let go

We completely surrender and give up control even though the problems of life are overwhelming and metaphorically stack up all the way to our teeth.

And sail Belly up to the clouds The rocks scraping our backs To breath in the air will be The only thing that we have

Again metaphor for completely giving up on trying to control everything, even sailing through life “belly up” in a vulnerable position, with such complete surrender that all we have is the air we breath as we give up everything else as we flow down the river of life, despite the inevitable obstacles and pain represented by the rocks scraping our backs.

And all the wasted nights And empty moments in our lives Flushed away as we sway with the rhythm Of the waves bobbing us up Crests fall to troughs As we feel our gills open up

Now that we’ve surrendered and confronted our pent up emotions and issues, we can finally heal from them and flush them away. As we go with the flow we’re now in rhythm with the the river of life.

And if the hook sets in The bottom of our lungs We’ll rip it out and lick the blood off With our tongues

Again if the inevitable bad things happen in life, this time we’ll confront our issues head on so we can heal, and not let the issues get pent up again.

The despair can ravage you If you turn your head around And look down the path That’s led you here Because what can you change?

If you look back and focus on the disappointments of the past, you can be ravaged by despair, so it’s time to heal and move on from the past.

You’re a vessel now Floating down the waterways You can take your rudder And aim your ship Just don’t bother with the things left in your wake

We’re a vessel floating down the river of life. we can aim our ship to meet our goals in the future, but obsessing on the past will make it harder to get there.

And your love will be warm nights With pockets of moonlight Spotlighting you as you drift The actor in this play

Just beautiful imagery here, I believe he’s saying if we follow the advice (moving on from the past, confronting issues, giving up control), we’ll get to experience love.

Then I feel the ending is just about how when we come to the end of life and the curtain falls, if we follow this advice we’ll have no regrets and live a meaningful life to be proud of.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
