Watch your mouth
Hold your toungue boy
Because you're running out of breath
Running out of time
Before every careless word
That you utter renders you utterly useless.
Now you're drowning in your own saliva
Trying to speak yourself to the top of your empty world
Well keep on talking just keep on rambling
You've got your mouth full
Listen here's the pleasant part
You and I we fell apart.
Listen here's the pleasant part
You and I we fell apart.(continue)
Why can't you make up your mind?
Why can't you make up your mind?
Shut your mouth
Burn your bridges
Throw your words like an attack and stab me in the wait a second wait a second what's that I just heard nevermind
It's obviously worthless..
Now you're standing on your soapbox yelling from the rooftops everything you say is a lie. a lie a lie. lie lie Yeah!
Listen here's the clever one who speaks before his thoughts are done.
Listen here's the clever one who speaks before his thoughts are done.(continue)
Why can't you make up your mind?
Why can't you make up your mind?
Watch your mouth
Hold your tongue
Somethings are better left unsaid
Watch your mouth
Hold your tongue
Somethings are better left unsaid.
Now I hope you're pleased,
You got your prize and tongue
I dance between your words,
Right before you fall....
RIGHT BEFORE YOU-
Why don't you, Why don't' you say that to my face?
I had a rip down, torn out So many things.
Everything you, everytime you, every word you say.
If I told you this was killing me, would you , would you Stop?

this song does have a meaning... if you dont know what it is saying... let me explain it. it is about himself.... he cant control the stupid things he does and says... he wants to but he cant. and it makes things worse for him. he is downgrading himself so that he wont continue to do that.

Hey Are you sure this song has that meaning?? I mean it looks to me like hes telling someone he knows to stop and think b4 they speak and relize what they are doing to people and their surroundings. It sounds like the other persons actions are hurting him. **If I told you this was killing me would you stop** doesnt that sound like hes talking to someone else??

Okay, I'm gonna take a crack at this. As someone whos been harassed and insulted my entire life I've found a very good interpretation through out the whole song. Listen to this song and think of it as someone singing it to someone who's insulting him repetitivly where it's driving him to the breaking point. Then alot of the song makes sense. The song seems like it's telling someone off who's been trying to offend him for along time.

I originally thought it was about somebody else, but looking back, it makes so much more sense for it to be about himself, even down to the title... Now the question is asked of whether he can stop being that part of himself that he so dislikes...

I think it's about someone who has a mouth with it's own mind. Basically what everyone else is saying. GREAT SONG! woo

The meaning this song has for me is similar to what some of the other ideas i've read. Basically what I derived from it (as a gurl...seeing if from my perspective) is that the song is about a relationship. One person doesnt realize that his/her actions and words are hurting their partner. Their words, although they dont realize are ruining the relationship *listen here's the pleasant part, you and i we fell apart....some things are better left unsaid* Anyway, so the realtionship is suffering and the person who is beng hurt wants desperately to end the pain *If I told you this was killing me would you stop?* Anyway, the first time I heard this song I was in a situation in which I was able to relate this song....you guys may not agree with it...but thats what makes this song so awesome!

@Kahiara Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.

Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."

The man has pseudo-friends who constantly criticize his actions. They moralize him, "teach" him and advise him to make a significant change in his life, because the way he is and what he does is not what they say it should be. They may find his life lame or immoral. They hold themselves up as role models. The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
