This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
I woke up today
To find myself in the other place
With a trail of my footprints
From where I ran away
It seems everything I've heard
Just might be true
And you know me, well you think you do
Sometimes, I have everything
Yet I wish I felt something
Do you know how far this has gone?
Just how damaged have I become?
When I think I can overcome
It runs even deeper
And in a dream I'm a different me
With a perfect you, we fit perfectly
And for once in my life I feel complete
And I still want to ruin it
Afraid to look, as clear as day
This plan has long been underway
I hear them call, I cannot stay
The voice inviting me away
Do you know how far this has gone?
Just how damaged have I become?
When I think I can overcome
It runs even deeper
Everything that matters is gone
All the hands of hope have withdrawn
Could you try to help me hang on?
It runs
I'm straight, I won't crack
On my way and I can't turn back
I'm okay, I'm on track
On my way and I can't turn back
I stayed on this track
Gone too far and I can't come back
I stayed on this track
Lost my way, can't come back
I stayed on this track
Gone too far and I can't come back
I stayed on this track
Lost my way, can't come back
I stayed on this track
Gone too far and I can't come back
I stayed on this track
Lost my way, can't come back
To find myself in the other place
With a trail of my footprints
From where I ran away
It seems everything I've heard
Just might be true
And you know me, well you think you do

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

I think that the fragile whole CD has interlocking meaning I mean my favorite songs on the CD are the Fragile, Even Deeper, and Some what damaged. I belive thaey all have inter locking means. In this song the girl in the fragil has brokin loose and lose it and because he no longer has her to keep him sain. He falls back into his old world.
