One million light years from home
Throwing up and feeling small
Where have I gone and landed tonight
I've been shot right to the core
Of NYC and hostility yeah
But you gotta laugh
'Cos there's something that I cannot do without
And it's in your hand

Where have I gone and landed tonight
A million light years from home
Throwing up and feeling small
And now I know that my mind is blown
'Cos there's something that I cannot do without
Something that I understand
Yeah there's something that I cannot do without
And it's in your hand

Cut down shot down
Any way you please
Don't get nothing for free
Big time small time
Any way you choose yeah
Don't mean nothing to me

Where have I gone and landed tonight
God give me strength
In a land of fakes and small time petty thieves
Must be the wrong place
'Cos all my honesty is true yeah
But it's gone to waste
On a soulless superficial void
Called the human race

Cut down shot down
Any way you please
Don't get nothing for free
Big time small time
Any way you choose yeah
Yeah but you gotta compete

Where have I gone and landed tonight
Throwing up and feeling small
One million light years from home
I've been shot right to the core
Of NYC and hostility yeah
But you gotta laugh
'Cos there's something that I cannot do without
And it's in your hand

Cut down shot down
Any way you please
Don't get nothing for free
Big time small time
Any way you choose yeah
Don't mean fuck all to me
Yeah I've been cut down shot down
Any way you please yeah
Sisters and brothers please yeah
Big time small time
Any way you please yeah
Don't mean nothing to me

i pretty suprised noone has written anything about this song before me coz it really is quite meaningful! Took me a while to work out what i think it means but now it makes sense. i think it's mena be jesus coming down from his place in the sky or wherever to visit us on earth and see how we are getting along. He then start thinking he's in the wrong place coz it's completely different from how he left it and doesnt understand whas going on. In the end he realises it is earth and ends up quite shocked and angry at what's going on in the world now ( i think the verse that starts where have i gone and landed tonight, god give me strength.... shows this quite powerfully) i like this as it really makes you think just what has happened to the world and the human race. Seems a bit deep for ash....

p.s. does anyone know what the something is that he cant do without?

I read an interview with Tim regarding this song, he said it's about going out and getting really off your head, then waking up the next day and just feeling so fucked and thinking "what have I done now" kind of like the morning after the night before. I love the interpretation about Jesus and everything Pablore but unfortunately I think that would be too deep for them, and I don't think you're rite!! I don't really know why it is called Jesus says though. E-mail me if you want to chat about Ash & Kickass music.

Maybe just toying around with all those writings of Jesus Saves. i don't know. WWJD? That was a good interpretation though, i gotta say.

As a FAN of Ash ,one of their major influences is The Velvet Underground. There are 2 VU songs--"Candy Says" and "Jesus"---I think thats where Tim got "Jesus Says",especially as the song is about New York,The Velvets playground!

ya wanna know what i think?.....ill tell you anyway

i think the interpretation of jesus was a very clever and well thought out interpretation - just not right sadly - it is about getting so off your face and waking up and thinking 'where have i gone and landed tonight?' 'what have i done?' 'who have i fucked?' etc etc etc - a class riff too

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Sunglasses at Night
Corey Hart
In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.
