“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
[ Chorus ]
I'm never gonna say I'm sorry
I'm a clown for everyone
I'm never gonna let you down
I%m always here like a sun
I'm a loser
that is a fact for sure
I'm happy even if you don't want
To invite me out for a dance tonight
I'm not normal
I know it
I don't care
[ Chorus ]
I'm always here like a sun
I'm always here
Like a ghost I follow your steps so true
You don't have to bribe me
Or fill me up
Give me just a minute to shine with you
I will make you so happy
Make you laugh
I'm never gonna say I'm sorry for
The essence of my soul
There's so many ways to change my life
'Cause I want to...oh
I'm like a clown
I'm fun for everyone
[ Chorus ]
I'm never gonna say I'm sorry
I'm a clown for everyone
I'm never gonna let you down
I%m always here like a sun
I'm a loser
that is a fact for sure
I'm happy even if you don't want

Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

While the obvious connections with suicide or alcoholism could be drawn easily, more subtly this song could be about someone who views the world through a negative lens constantly and how as much as the writer tries to show the beauty in the world, this person refuses to see it. It's one or another between the rope and the bottle. There is no good option for this person. They can't see it. Skiba sings it in a kind of exasperated way like He's tired of hearing this negative view constantly and just allowing that person to continue feeling the way they feel knowing he can't do anything about it. You can hear it when he says maybe you're a vampire.

"Zombie" is about the ethno-political conflict in Ireland. This is obvious if you know anything of the singer (Dolores O'Riordan)'s Irish heritage and understood the "1916" Easter Rising reference.
"Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence caused such silence
Who are we mistaken
-
Another mother's breaking
Heart is taking over"
Laments the Warrington bomb attacks in which two children were fatally injured on March 23rd, 1993. Twelve year old Tim Parry was taken off life support with permission from his mother after five days in the hospital, virtually braindead.
"But you see it's not me
It's not my family"
References how people who are not directly involved with the violence feel about it. They are "zombies" without sympathy who refuse to take action while others suffer.
I think they are talking about a very specific person who will never say sorry bcz he doesnt have the choice (his essence/nature does not allow him), the lyrics are very deep and when you watch the video it's clearer who they are talking about. There is only one person they are refering to, can somebody guess??
@elatinamex No, please tell?
i don't think it is about one person but about people who are misunderstood in general, maybe because of how they think or look 'not normal'. How they too want to be loved just like anyone else. But not at the expense of changing everything they stand for - the essence of their soul.
I feel like it's about someone who's socially awkward, knows about it and refuses to be ashamed of him/herself. Both in front of him/herself and in front of the world.
He/she has come to realize that his/her mistakes are not the end of the world. People can relate, and thus they will typically love you all the more for it.
@saddamhansson Finally someone who gets it.
She is neglected by the one she loves, but she is so deep in love that even though she will be there for him. He does not have to take her for a dance to keep her in love. She will love him whatever he does. She knows she is awkward, she will never be sorry for that, although she lives in such love pain and she would like to change if possible ("There's so many ways to change my life 'cause I want to"). I do not get the comments referring to a life attitude towards anybody, ignoring the obvious: it is clear that she is talking about a loved guy who is not corresponding her. "I'm happy even if you don't want to invite me out for a dance tonight", "I follow your steps so true", etc.
