Oh here you are
There's nothing left to say
You're not supposed to be that way
Did they push you out
Did they throw you away?

Touch me now and I don't care
When you take me I'm not there
Almost human, but I'll never be the same

Long way down
I don't think I'll make it on my own (long way down)
I don't want to live in here alone (long way down)
Long way down, I don't think I'll make it on my own

I never put you down, I never pushed you away
You're not supposed to be that way
And anything you want, there's nothing I could say

Is there anything to feel? Is it pain that makes you real?
Cut me off before it kills me

Long way down, I don't think I'll make it on my own
Long way down, I don't want to live in here alone
Long way down, I don't think I'll make it on my own

I never put you down, I never pushed you away
Take another piece of me
Give my mind a new disease
And the black and white world never fades to gray

Long way down, I don't think I'll make it on my own
Long way down, I don't want to live in here alone
Long way down, I don't think I'll make it on my own

anyway, back to the song meaning... i think it's about drugs...think about the title "long way down"... and then there's "is it pain that makes you real? cut me off before it kills me" i think it has to be referring to drugs of some sort...although i know nothing about the band's history...

"take another piece of me give my mind a new disease" i think he is somewhat addicted to this girl, and he knows she doesn't want him but he is going a little insane, therefore the things she does lead him to believe she wants him too.

This is a great song. I still like Goo Goo Dolls current stuff, but the songs on Boy Named Goo kicked so much more ass. It was before the band was pussy pop.

Yes, yes it was pop. Flat Top was pop, Name was pop, Naked was pop. It was rock with pop influence, genius. Which it still is. ____________________________________________ freewebs.com/…

i disagree...name was soft rock, adult alternative, but NOT quite pop at all...a boy named goo and albums before it are more "grungey" than their latter albums but their more recent albums are simply MAINSTREAMED they're not pop at all... genres describing their music overall would include hard rock, mainstream rock, adult alternative, and modern rock..no pop involved............................... i think this song is about a girl that left him for someone/somthing else and then she realized she was worse off than ever and wants to come back to him ... "Did they push you out did they throw you away? Touch me now and I don't care." ...and even though he wants her back... "Long way down I don't think I'll make it on my own. Long way down I don't want to live in here alone." ...he's still hurts because she left him and he dosen't want her to hurt him again... "And anything you want, there's nothing I could say. Is there anything to feel? Is it pain that makes you real? Cut me off before it kills me. I never put you down, I never pushed you away. Take another piece of me. Give my mind a new disease."

Umm.. let me just say for the record that with what robbie has done with independant bands in buffalo, the work he has done organizing concerts and stuff... that he is definately a musician dedicated to his craft... that being said.,,, this song was amazing and i always used to think it was nirvana.... because of that i hated the goo goo dolls but now i see what they do... and am just blown away they really have matured a great deal and still write wonderful music.... it is both appealing and unique...

For a long time I didn't think this song was that great, but for some reason now more than ever I think it's one of their best. The remix version from the Twister soundtrack is even better musically. Great guitar work, great lyrics. John always sings his songs with passion, and this one so much it almost bleeds.
