Amazing Grace Lyrics

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost
But now I'm found
Was blind but now I see

Cover art for Amazing Grace lyrics by Janis Joplin

This song was written by a slave trader. He was on a boat during a really bad storm and had a conversion while on the boat. He realized that he needed to change his life around and so he did. "That saved a wretch like me." He once was lost but then was found, was blind but now he sees. Grace taught his heart to fear, but at the same time it also lifted his fears. And how precious did that grace finally appear the hour that he first believed. "We've no less days to sing God's praise than when we first begun."

Yeah, there's more to the song, but the version by Janis Joplin that I know of only includes this first verse. It then segues into Hi Heel Sneakers.
